Bodges 1/48 Tiger 1 by AFV Club (Quick build)
Posted by Bodge on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 4:52 AM

Hi Guys, first off i would like to say i like the new look to the site , Well done FSM.Yes

Well as the Famo im doing is a slow labour of love i thought i would get my teeth into something a bit easier and quicker to build and paint to stop me getting bored. Im making this pretty much out of the box.

First off i wanted to do away with one mud guard at the front and then to thin the other side down to a more realistic thickness and also bend up at the hinge just to add some personal detail to the kit.

The model comes with some of the finest printed zimmeritt ive seen so there is a job i dont need to do which will save a load of time. The fine details on this are very good also even down to the fasteners on the tool clamps so there is very little that really needs altering in the way of details. The kit seems to go together very well also with a nice snug fit to all parts and no need for any putty. Also im gonna use the kit tracks as they are very well detailed and are the rubber band type so no hard labour there. They have no injection pin marks to deal with and the only downside is they dont have hollow guide horns but as this is small scale i think i can rectify this with simply painting the hollows in black .Back with some more on this quick build soon.

Nice work so far.  I'm working on the same kit & I agree with you on the fit & detail.  The rubber band tracks look pretty good, but reviews indicate they are a tad too short.  I have the AFV accessory indie tracks which I plan on using,  although I've never used indies before.  Keep us posted on your Build, I'll be following with interest.

Regards,  Rick

Well the rest of the kit went together fairly straight forward and even had PE grills for the engine deck which was a nice touch in this scale.

The tracks had a nice fit ,not too long or too short and i glued them down to reprecent the sag in them and i must say in my opinion there really is no need for after market ones on this occasion.Next i primer coated the whole thing. I chose to leave off the side skirts as i have made my own out of thin ally sheet so i can disstress them and leave some off for that battle weary look. I also had to make the skirt holding brackets out of plastic card.I have also cut off the towing cable on one side and had to add all the fixings for this cable to the tank. Also done was damage to the exhausts covers.

Looking really good.  Glad to hear the RB tracks fit well.  I may have wasted my $ on the indies Sad.

Looking forward to seeing her painted & weathered.

The AFV kit appears to blow Tamiya's out of the water, especially with the zim and PE goods. This looks like a fun and quick little build.

As i said earlier here are some shots of the progress. Ive given the tank the replacement barrell look and this is in black as all replacements were and not in primmer red as some people have done in the past.

Ive painted the tracks and guns and some of the details

Next comes the filter coats which will tone down the colour and tie everything together.

Filter coats done

First weathering coats applied in the form of a light dirt wash

Now the chipping starts with fine painted negative chips in a colour lighter than the base coat

Followed by black brown chips inside the lighter ones.

More weathering next.

Wow Andy, Quick Build is right for this one! If you blink you'll be done! Very nice work on the 1/48 Tiger, would never know by looking at what you've done with it so far that it's not 1/35. Yes

OK so now ive added some more light coats of pigments,(very diluted) and on the end few photo,s added some dry pigments. Thats about it for the tank, i still want to do some stowage and the figures yet but its been a fun stress free build and one you can do in a weekend.

Stellar work there Andy, just beautiful, as for the scale, I could easily have thought it was 35th.

Cheers guys , i enjoyed it as it was stress free and nice and quick to build . Nice to get something finnished soon after starting it which doesnt happen much for me as i get bored with projects if they are to involved and strung out.   May i just say i know its not armour but the Doogs car has left me feeling very inferior. It is simply amazing.
