A real pleasure to follow along with this one Steve from start to finish and the final project doesn't disappoint at all! The detail you added with the re-bar and mesh/wire is perfect and definitely makes it stand out as a true original. Beer Beer Yes Yes

Steve, I'm at at a loss for words. Beautiful build brother. If I had one (critique), is that I wish you left the 50 cal MG unwrapped, but that is just MO. Kudos.

A really amazing build Steve, what with the build itself and all the showmanship around it Geeked

You have to zoom in on the photo's to appreciate the detailing and weathering you have added.

The only thing I am not too happy with is that we will probably have to wait another year for your next build Crying

Yeah baby! What a great way to start my Saturday morning!  ..... It looks just as badass as I had been imagining .  Steve, we will never know how it might have looked with foliage , but I think you made the right choice leaving it off. It would have covered up the chicken wire which to me looks really cool and very in scale.

The pic with the black background does look smokey.. very cool effect..I for one am glad you took your time and enjoyed yourself going at your speed  ... better for everyone that way....I am gonna go back and look at the pics and upload them now.  Have a great day, pal !

Really nice...a very textured and layered finsih which is an art to achieve in itself...very convincing, IMO, but not over the top in terms of distressing the finish...oustanding use of chicken and barbed wire that was seen on so many late-war American tanks...base gives it more "life"...a real treat for all Armor fans...top-shelf work here...YesYes...

Steve,

A tour-de-force of a WIP and a model. WOW, you've really raised the bar both personally and collectively for the forum.

This is the best Sherman I've ever seen. It has been undertaken with a definite vision and commitment to the highest standards, and in al areas, you've excelled.

Congratulations on a superior job! Bow DownBow Down

Karl,
From top to bottom, I'm totally flattered by your response...... and especially since it originates from such a multi-talented & prestigious member of the Finescale Forum.

As I am sure all my fellow peers on the forum have figured out; I set out to build a one of a kind (moment in time) version of this subject as unique and yet accurate as my abilities might permit..........
......demonstrating that you don't have to throw out a lot of cash for designer parts/accessories, exotic chemicals or pigments.

This long term project of mine displays what patience, creativity, simplistic ingredients and a shot of lightheartedness can come together to accomplish.

My Sherman came out as planned and the feedback has been encouraging to say the very least. So far I have not received any negative comments; so if I'm only to do a (build) project like this once, it apparently can be said that I did it right and gave it my best.

 Thanks doog,
and thanks again for being a part of this thread.

It's been a great (Epic) journey through this project. She looks truely amazing, a real show stopper, i do remember using the phrase "Catwalk Queen" a while back on another post but I believe it appplies here as well.

Well done and thanks for a great thread.

WOW !!!! I wasnt here when this thread started and i'm fortunate to be here at its end ,and this appears to have been an epic one ! I have a couple of these ole Tamiya Jumbo's in my stash and had written them off as a lost cause . After seeing what you have done with this kit i am going to re open the box and rethink my options . Thats whats most intriguing about your build ....the ability to take an old kit and bring up to present day standards .Great thread ! To bad its over .

Hope I didn't mislead you to think this was a modification of the old Tamiya Jumbo kit.
Anyhow I'm glad this was a good thing for you.

Hey DM,

I don't know a great deal about American armour - the Sherman inparticular (something I'm hoping to remedy as I have the Dragon Hybrid Firefly in my stash which will be on my bench VERY soon - it's as close to a 'proper' Sherman as my stash gets at present! Yes

Anyway, onto this build of yours - it's not bad. It's bloody AWE INSPIRING! WOW!

I'm with Tigerman on the MG cover as I do like to see a well modelled .50cal in all it's glory but saying that I doubt I could have even made the cover!

I'm not sure but I recall reading that bedsprings/mattresses ets were attached to Shermans to take the 'oomph' of the low velocity Panzerfaust projectile - was the chicken wire intended to have the same effect? Please correct me if I have completely the wrong idea!

I won't be surprised if I see this Shermie of yours on the cover of FSM very soon - it's perfection. What more can I say!

Again, great job DM. Just pure perfection in plastic.

I haven't been folowing this blog but will sit down and read the full 20 something pages tonight as it looks like I could learn a bit from this blog!

Very well done matey - what's up on the bench next? Any plans or is a little break in store?

This definately has my vote as best blog of 2011 so far too! So funny!

Thanks for sharing this build with us buddy,

Take care,

Ben Toast

Steve,,,   it certainly turned out very well. The entire scene / "blend" is spot on....  all the detailng looks fantastic.

I won't go rehash every little tweak and tip you provided.... but suffice to say, the trip has been well worth it.

What I would like to point out the most is this - - - - Thank you very much for posting the project. I have enjoyed following the growth of this effort from its inception.

Again,,,  Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
