Oh no, not ANOTHER GB idea.......
Posted by tigerman on Thursday, February 3, 2011 9:27 PM

Sorry gents but yes. A couple actually. If I can spur enough interest, I'll fire one up March 1st and continue until June 30. That's 4 months and long enough. Big Smile

I've hit the wall on my other builds and don't feel like painting (where I am) in the dark after work.......so I'd love to build! Need to break open another box LOL

My ideas, such as they are:

  • Panzerjager GB (Marders, Hetzers, Ferdinand/Elefant, Jadgtiger, Jadgpanther, Jagdpanzer IV, Nashorn, StuGs)
  • Heavy Metal GB (this would involve any AFV that was classified as heavy by their respective country.
  • Afrika Korps GB (no Italian or captured) (Will open this up to the flyboys too)

There you have it. I will wait until Sunday night to see if there is enough interest.

So if you were to vote for one only, which would it be?

What about a captured, or repurposed vehicle group build?

LOL that would indeed be a popular GB. I could enter multiple. Bang Head

Steven, my post mentioned no captured, but I might be persuaded to modify that portion. It did cross my mind, but then that takes a little away from the German equipment.

Three of my GBs end in June so my plate is full.  If you can push the start date til July, count me in and I really like the idea Afrika Korps GB.  I don't think I have seen one for last 2 years...

Was there one already? I can't keep track of all the GB's. I recall a North African or Western Desert GB, but those are broader (British and Italian) then say an Afrika Korps GB.

Well depending on the interest, an Afrika Korps one might be available down the pipeline or sooner. Whistling

Nope, I just was throwing in a whole new idea; not just a modification.Cool  Whatever happens I won't (probably) be able to participate due to craziness and commitment to another group build or two...  :/

Hmmm?

Well if I had to choose from the three it would definately be the 'Heavy' GB as I love my big SPG's and there are a couple of kits floating around that would be ideal.

I've just signed up to Dale's (Seriously Altered) StuG GB which I'll be starting next week as I'm putting the finishing touches to my WIP JSU-152 this weekend. I'm building the Tamiya StuG III Ausf B as my GB entry.

I think a great idea for a GB would be a 'Wheels - no tracks' GB. Wheeled vehicles only, anything from WWII Austin Tillys or Willys Jeeps and right up to a modern day US Humvee. I need an excuse to build something with wheels and without tracks!

I'm good with any of the three ideas. I'll just continue to monitor and then figure which kit to pull out of the stash....or convince my wife that I really really really need to buy another kit   Wink....

Well, I have ordered the kubelwagen with Afrika Korps markings and dessert tires. If cross builds are OK, I am in for this one.

Cheers...

I think something similar, say a soft-skin build was done, but that doesn't prevent you from firing up an all-wheel build. Again, it's so hard to keep track of all the GB's.

I have a Dragon Jagdtiger that would qualify for two of my ideas. I'm kinda gun shy on the Afrika Korps build, but I have 3-4 kits that could work for it too.

I need definitive "leanings" please. Smile

Tigerman, you have piqued my interest but I'm not sure I'd have anything off the top that would fit.

For a jagdpanzer would you be going all German or would other tank hunters be ok? I picked up a FineMolds Imperial Japanese Type 3 Ho-Ni tank destroyer last year that I thought about tossing into the SP Gun GB till I found out that the IJA only used the Ho-Ni in a direct fire role so it really didn't fit. I remember there was a tank hunter GB that ended about the time I joined the forum. I'd be happy to toss her in if ok, if not it's not a problem.

For a heavy GB I have a US M46 Patton if you'd be willing to streach the time frame to include the Korean War and a British Challenger (Second World War and Korea markings) but it's limited run and I'm a little afraid to tackle it.

No big deal either way, whatever you way you want to roll with it Toast

I hosted the Hunters GB about 3-4 years ago?? That was basically an SPG related build, with some tanks. There was some healthy debate on what qualifiied.

No, for this one, it would be strictly the 3 German vehicles.

For the heavy, I might have to open it up to Cold War and Modern. I'm not sure a Patton is considered a heavy by US standards. Perhaps someone like Rob, Gino or someone else could clarify that.

I could go "Panzerjager GB". Of course this would be German, but then whom doesn't have a German kit?

Options would be:

Of course this kind of crosses a few GB's, the StuG and the Marder, but the Marder GB was capped.

Thanks Tigerman,

After a little checking it seems that though the M26 was classified as a heavy the M46 was reclassified as a medium Sad And the more I think about the WWII Challenger A30 (NOT the modern Challenger II - sorry if I was confusing) I think I need more experience with limited run kits before I take it on.

I do have a Dragon Jagdpanther and Royal Tiger in my stash but somehow I'm just not in a German mood Sad

Sorry to have been a bother but I think I'm going to opt out, maybe I'll change my mind by then. My apologies for wasting your time.

No bother Gamera. My thinking is people might be  GB'd out right now. Perhaps if I were more precise on one, then people can say "yay"  or "nay".

I have few Allied kits, so you can see why I chose German themes. Wink

Ok, here's my preferences:

!st-WW II Heavies

2nd-Africa Korp

3rd-Panzerjager

However, I'm in no matter which theme wins.

Dammit Tiger...man....lol

You peaked my interest with the Heavy Metal GB idea as they are my favs!

Question if this one comes to light, would prototypes be allowed? Always wanted to get a ratte or that new DML  VK.45.02(P)H is really calling me =D

If this gets the green light then as long as the prototype  was considered a heavy, then yes it would be a go.

That's 2 votes for the heavy GB.

Hey TM,

I'll be starting Dale's StuG GB next weekend - I'm building a simple kit which will be painted in standard Panzer Grey so that shouldn't take long.

That would leave me with two kits in my stash, the first being the Dragon Sherman Hybrid IC Firefly and the other kit is the Dragon Marder III Ausf M Befehslager.

I've promised myself no more splurging of £££'s on new kits until my present stash has been been finished.

With that in mind I'd definately have to give a vote for a Panzerjager GB and enter my Dragon Marder III.

Panzerjager GB - 1 vote from Hinksy Yes

It's a big, complex build and I'll do well to get it finished for the end of the GB but I'll go for it!

I'm thinking of one more modification to the heavy. Opening it up to modern as well. Any thoughts?

I'm voting Panzerjager, because I have a Marder IIIM in the stash, and I need an excuse to build it.  Kind of my ongoing theme with these GBs.  I have one, therefore I build it for the good of the GB.

If you open up the Heavy Metal to modern, I have some stuff as well.  Just really want to get my Marder groove on.

Great choice on the Marder III. Is it the Tamiya kit or Dragon? I really enjoyed the old Tamiya kit.

Modified the Heavy Metal post to include modern. Same rules apply, it has to be classified as heavy.

I like it and think I could pull it off, meaning the timeing.  Finish my present build, that puts me right at the start time for this one.  When this one ends it puts me right on schedule for the Great War GB.  So, YES, I,m in.

would do the "Panzerjager I" - Dragon #6230

or the "T35 Russian Heavy Tank" - ICM #35053

My vote is for the Panzerjager.  Want to build a newer kit again instead of some of these fussy kits I've been building lately.  If that does not win the votes though, I have been wanting to build the T-35 for some time now.  Love these muti-turret tanks.

Eric, if you're hosting a GB then count me in!  Big Smile

and my vote goes to:   Panzerjager

Question:  I have a Dragon Hetzer that I barely started (still working on the suspension) and an Italeri Jagpanzer IV that's a little farther along (from the old HUNTERS GB /forums/t/90481.aspx?PageIndex=49)

Would either of these be OK to enter?  I'd love to finish one of them for a GB!  If not I have a Dragon Jagdpanther (early) that should do nicely!  Put me on the list if its the Panzerjager GB and let me know which one to enter!

Thank Rob and Ernest. 4-2 so far with another day of voting, then I'll see if that leads to the promise land.

Ernest, I started that Hunters GB. I can't recall if I finished my build. As usual, I'm sure I didn't. Bang Head My record isn't great, but I have finished a few of them.

Sure, if your builds are lightly started I could make an exception this time around, since the interest is a little light. I think once I announce a particular GB it will gather steam. 3 of my GB's when over 1000 posts, so there has always been great participation. Big Smile

Rob love that Panzerjager I. I picked one up myself. Looks like a beauty.
