The more I look at the reference pictures I have the more convinced I am that i got this wrong or misread Trumpeters instructions.
The elevating springs are just to far apart in what I did.

Johan, you might like this because I had to ask.  My family and I visited your city Gothenburg for few days during our trip to Denmark two years ago.  Great children museum!  It rained and rained for two days unfortunately so that's why we spent most of our time at the museums.

Another weekend with only very limited progress.
I managed to break the compressors air regulator in the move and am fresh out of canned air.
So only some minor work on the turret completed.

Primed up the aluminium barrel.
According to some postings the barrel has to small a diameter so I am taking that to work to drill it out tomorrow.

The AA gun was a nightmare. The gun itself is detailed enough but the elevating system has no clear attachment points and the gun is not centred when sandwiched between parts...just realized that the instructions are in the old flat
I am still not sure I am happy with the result.
Anyone who knows about an aftermarket part?

It has been a while since I managed to get any time with this build, we have been moving houses and I am still struggling to find my ways around...
But I'm getting there

Anyway, here is a short update.

Never been much of a soldering man but I will pick up.
Failed miserably on the bracket and decided to scratch it...


And here it is mounted on the turret, managed to get some XF-5 on the hull in the same go, at this stage this is only to check for flaws in the assembly so far.

Can't help on the fuel drum issue unfortunately but can say nice job on the detail work that you're adding.

I am a bit stuck atm, since we are moving houses my gear is al over the place.
Good new is that I found a couple of "bonus kits" stashed away in the cellar since 1994 :)

I am coming back to the fuel drums on the T62.
Would anyone have any reference photos or even just be able to confirm if those drums where connected with any sort of piping to the main hull?

Here are 2 pictures of T-72 with the piping used on this version - pretty much the same as on the later T-90.

thanks again for taking interest and providing me with these great reference shots - the bracket is actually there - only just visible at 3 o'clock.

It's been a while now - we are moving houses and there is just no time atm

But here is some progress;
As I said earlier I wanted to give the kit the missing piping so I started to bend some brass wire

While I was at it I wanted to do something about the birdcage around the front headlight as well, truly inspired by K-Dawg

I think it was for when the AA machine gun was not mounted and stored for transport. But again, I am not sure. This photo does not have that bracket.

Initially I thought it could be part of the fording equipment but the angle of the tubular lock made no sense to me.


I guess the full hatch assembly needs to traverse to get it into position.

The bracket is bent out of position, but I believe it kept the machine gun in place while not being used.

first of all please excuse the bad quality of the pictures pointed out by several, unfortunately even this is a question of learning by doing and I am afraid that I am in the start of the process

I will use some more background light and a camera with a wider optic, but I am afraid that the problem is behind the camera

Anyway,
here is today's headache, the cage for the headlights just does not look the part.
So I am closing the holes in the front and will try some more wire bending...


And I need to reach out to this community for help again;
Does anyone have a reference that shows if the barrels on the back have a piping connection to the main body.
The T-90 certainly does have this and ZVEZDA acutually provide this which I will use as reference if nothing else is available.

Secondly I wonder if anyone knows what this bracket does? Any ideas, I am stuck atm...

Been busy with the preparations for Santa's annual visit last week but I will do what I can to bring this in on time for an update in Tigerman's thread.

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures to show the progress to date;

I continued working on the tower and realised to late that there is a small problem with the instructions showing the right hand tie down brackets welded on to close to the spent shell ejection hatch.

This is a refernce picture from Rob's link showing the correct position

I removed and repositioned and started to fill the grab handle holes with SG.

The turret sits on a widened part of the lower tube where a rail is welded on, probably to keep gear and feat from getting pulled under.

The area requires some filling so I used some of PE leftower to keep the mounting holes for the rail free from filler.

The upper hull is primed grey and is now about to be preshaded, the lower hull is primed in black waiting for the road wheel assemblies to be completed.

Looks like your off to a good start !  I've always wanted to try my hand on the T-62...would make a great load for my upcoming Maz-537G.

The T-62 was the immediate threat the Swedish addressed with the STRV 103, or the S-tank.
The S-tank was infamous for its lack of ability to fire while moving but now I am reading that the T-62 suffered a similar inability, the spent case ejection mechanism only worked when the turret was aligned to the hull.

Very few tanks could accurately fire while on the move. Theoretically, every tank can fire while moving; hitting something other than the ground a mile away is a crap shoot while moving. Especially if the targeted tank is moving.

The M1 was the first US tank to incorporate a complete stabilization system in the design of the tank. Many previous US tanks had a gryo system that would keep the gun generally in the right direction, but the gunner had to fight the controls to keep the sights on the center mass of the target if their tank was moving.

Even the M60A3TTS tanks that were equipped with a stab system usually turned it off and only used it during gunnery for the moving tank engagement.

Accuracy improves exponentially for a tank that fires from the short halt.

I wanted to share some progress with you on the T62 build so here we go;

Work on the main hull continues - right now I am trying to figure out what part of the electric wiring should be replaced.
The individual tracks have all been cleaned and are ready for the first assembly runs.

I havee also started to work on the turret;

Trumpeter should be acknowledged for trying to protect the fragile hand rails

But unfortunately in my example they had not been very successful

I was going to replace them with wire anyway so here is my first attempt at wire-bending

Then I drilled out the holes in the turret.
Trumpeter do not provide you with a lot of instruction here - "Make a hole"...

- and here is a word of warning. I drilled the holes square to the turret surface sides which basically means that every hole has a different angle to horizontal.
The result is that the rails take a much to steep curve over the turret.

What I should have done is probably to decide on a common angle to horizontal.
I hope to be able to fix some of the mistake after that the LocTite has set.

So fare the build is great fun and I enjoy every moment of it

I hope to be able to get the latches and lugs in place later today so that I can start preshading the turret when my new Neo arrives from Chicago.

Great stuff Hans,
It looks to me as if all 3 canisters where used connected in a series as you would normally do with batteries, which means that the mid one wasn't connected to the the tank fuselage at all.

Yesterdays's progress was very limited.
I am closing a big gap in the front section between the upper and lower hull plate:


I am also a bit concerned about the drive housing covers, the overlap is a bit alarming:


I guess I should have taken some material out but I did not want to ruin the weld beads.

Still need some advice on those fuel lines :)

Today I got the Russian T62 Mod. 1972.
The box is packed with sprue's and comes with 2 stencil options, a PE freet and a copper tow cable.
You get an optional turned aluminium barrel, separately molded tires and individual links.
There are optional markings for a Russian T-62 in overall green and an Iraq T-62 in sand and light  green.
At the same price as 5 Big-Mac meals.

This looks like a lot of fun :)
