Panther D profile pictures..?
Posted by kermit on Saturday, September 24, 2011 9:04 AM

Hi guys,

For the Panther Ausf.D (Revell of Germany's ICM rebox) i am currently building for the Ostfront GB i am planning to depict a Panther at the battle of Kursk. The one three tone camo option that Revell offers isn't really really appealing to me so i am trying to expand my options.

Googling the big www i found only limited images of camouflage schemes for this particular vehicle and timeframe. I am sure there's bound to be sources with profile pictures...?

Would be very grateful if anyone can point my nose in the right direction.

Richard

Guys,

Thank you for your suggestions sofar. I came to the same conclusion that most drawings and pictures i have seen are primarily yellow and green camo's wheras my own painting suggestions call for a three tone blotched scheme.

Must say i do like the number 535 tank...

Richard

EDIT: I might add that the little B&W drawing that revell of germany usually puts on the front of their instruction manuals shows a Panther D in a late war ambush scheme...Indifferent. Hence i take these painting instructions with a big pinch of salt. I would rather depict a correctly camo-ed Pz.V with an incorrect turret number than have it correctly decalled and painted wrong...

Remember that the ausf D was in very small numbers at Kursk.  Your options aren't that many...

In situations like this, unless you can say with confidence that every single Panther D at Kursk HAD been photographed and you could rule OUT a certain specific camo scheme, I would say to do your own based loosely on the general orientation of camo scheme and color used there. Why not? You'll have an accurate Panther D that's a little unique from everyone else's. Smile

Here's a pic from 'Panther In Action' by Squadron Publications. This is one of my favs.

I used another pic as a reference for the right side.

The front and rear were my imagination.
