Problem is that the "comments " we make here are about the only way that there is to judge each other . We all know that for a fact but its still difficult to  like someone that is critical most of the time on here . I dont know anything about "schnobbs" (think i'd find another handle instead of that one to begin with ) but we had a member on here a few yrs . back that thought he ran the site and was constantly making critical comments via p.m. (same guy , different name ?) I couldnt hack the guy . I left , he stayed . I heard he stepped on a few too many toes and finally left . I'm back Gulfstream ! Whistling

Wing nut is sort of taking a break. He is devoting more time to the job and family for a while.

But not completely gone.   i will still offer my opinion on occasion .  But I am down form the ZOOm to 10K posts to just a few a week.  But oh do I lurkStick out tongue

And Ben... you can go right on calling us lads.  When I was a currency broker I work with in places where you couldn't swing  a dead cat without hitting a Brit.  Anyone that takes offense to that has never met a Brit... or talked to one... or seen "The Bridge on the River Kwai"  for Pete's sake!

Wow what a diorama, worthy of a best of show at Euro that one. Really taken modelling to another level. Glad i stopped by now.Big Smile

By the way Manny Schnobbs was bulied out if i recal on one of his posts and he couldnt believe people that he thought were friends having a go and joining in aswell. I still speak to him on another site and he will never come back here. Which is the forums biggest loss in my eyes because he really went to town on blogging his builds and his ability has gone from beginner to master in modelling. Shame that.Sad

Just to clarify this, Andy--Schnobs was most certainly NOT "bullied out". He couldn't take well-intended criticism--which was offered by two of this site's most well-respected and talented veteran members--and decided to take it personally and make it as issue of ego. The issue was further inflamed by a "buddy" of his who inflamed the situation to where Schnobs entrenched himself to the point of where the only option left to a person of that mindset was to leave. I recall that whole episode very clearly, and I was saddened to see it go down like that, as he was truly a superbly-talented modeler. Sadly, however, THAT "final" incident was not the first incident in which he'd had snarky words with forum members over perceived "insults" that were simply critiques.

Not trying to stir the pot at all, but for new guys here, and anyone new who doesn't remember the "war", it's only fair to defend the forum against a charge of "bullying"--which, in complete trust of knowing you as I do, I know are not YOUR words. Wink It wouldn't be fair to the forum to let that impression stand. (BTW, I found that post, and will PM it's hyperlink to you should you like to confirm the veracity of the facts.)

As far as some of these "missing" guys, Scott (Espins1) seems to hang out at Armorama more so than here. I haven't heard from SMJ for a while--I know he couldn't get internet at his home in New York, and had a devil of a time posting half the time--maybe it just became too much of a PITA? I would imagine that maybe biffa got a bit of burn out? He used to build like a madman. I went through a phase like that too, and needed a break ten years ago. EDIT--just read through the rest of the posts and was interested, like others, to read of SMJ's new "direction".

"Real life catches up"--yes it does; I don't get half the time at the bench that I would like to get. Traveling to work and record, the new living arrangements with Jenn, finding time for keeping in shape--sigh....so much to do, so little time. It just catches you by surprise..Indifferent

People come and go...in the 8+ years I've been around the FSM forums there has been a lot of traffic...and it's neat to see the progression that some people go through (Congrats Ben on nearing the 3 year mark!) as part of the community. There's been flare ups and people leaving of course, that always happens with a large and diverse group of personalities, but things tend to settle back down and the world keeps on turning. I often find myself wondering the proverbial "whatever happened to so-and-so" from time to time...sometimes they resurface, sometimes they don't. Beer

After the site revamp a couple of years ago i thought that was going to kill off the site there was that many saying they would leave. But as you rightly say, things soon settle down again. And the new guys come in and before you know it it's all go again. And there will always be a handful of 'old hands' who can sit back and reminisce about those who have left the fold.

EDIT--just read through the rest of the posts and was interested, like others, to read of SMJ's new "direction".

Karl,

I ran into Steve at the 'Big E' Amherst train show in Springfield MA. back in January. He had a few tables and was selling his weathered rail cars and buildings and offering commissions on custom work. He had some really nice stuff on the table.

You can see some on his website:

Hey, thanks for that. camokid! That's a pretty neat thing he's into now. The Coal Breaker that he did is KILLER! I may have to order one of those--it's a huge part of my interests in the coal history of Pennsylvania where I grew up! I'm going to photograph one of Pa's last standing coal breakers in two weeks.

I"ll have to email Steve; he met me out at SYRCON a few years back, and I met his family and we entered some models in the contest and had a nice afternoon. I've been wondering where he disappeared to?

Thanks again for the link! Smile

Shelback i dont think it would have been the same guy from what i knew about Edd,but hey i may be wrong, who knows

Karl i retract the phrase bullying as i dont know the whole facts and only saw the last parts of it and what i was told on private emails, trouble is you hear one story and tend to think it is gospel without hearing all sides. As it had nothing to do with me i take back my earlier statement. All i know is he was a good modeller ,a brilliant poster on tutorials on his work and to me a nice bloke. He may have been a complete ar*e hole to others  i dont know.

Congrats Ben on nearing the 3 year mark! Beer

Thanks bill and everyone else,

It really was my pleasure - I've learnt a LOT in my time here. Of all the forums I've visited since taking up our great hobby, FSM and it's members stand head and shoulders above the rest and you are the forum of choice always now. I like to keep my buddies on the 'UK' site updated as I know some of them personally. Like I said FSM is my number one choice and the great lads Stick out tongue I've met on here are all a great tribute to their country Yes

Nearly three years - here's to the next three and God willing many more after that! Beer

If Bill left that is indeed a loss to the community. I PM'd him long after another blowout on the forums and hopefully convinced him to return, which he did for some time.

What about Rick rjkmodelplastics? He vanished without so much as a peep. Some of the A/C guys must know what happened.

Hey Guys!!!, PRETTY AMAZING!!!,

Check this out....

After MONTHS away from armor I get the hankerin' this past weekend...remembering the modeling vets advice:  "to get back into the swing of things, keep it simple", I decide to dig out the Tamiya Tiger I-Initial, nice kit, no zim', a good "jump starter", so to speak.

I start rummaging through the box, and the warm fuzzy juicesStick out tongue start flowin'... I yell for my wife (Oooops wrong forum Wink)...for old-time-sake I familiarize myself with the instructions and proceed to clip off the "not needed" parts...then I notice the two piece barrelDead!!! and NO PE screens for the intake coversTongue Tied!!!  OK vets, simple is one thing, but sanity is anotherPropeller!!!  After some internal debate I decide I better go find an AM barrel and grilles.  Grilles, ebay, no problem...barrel, problem!  then...WAITIdea...I think... no problem, the guys on the forum will have the info on the barrelYes!!!

No sooner do I get to the forum do I find this thread...after a good cryCrying here I am.  True story, with some comedic relief...and the added tears.  Seriously though, I do have the Tiger in mind and will be starting an intro/ info thread real soon.

If you'll endulge me before getting to the Tiger I also plan to start a thread letting everyone know what I've been up to lately, with some pictures...different genre (model railroading) but I think you'll like them.

Glad to be back!
