The LAPD could not determine IF there was any ammo on board, and the guy had tried to kill several people aready and would have gone into oncoming traffic had he not gotten stuck on the divider. Oh and he was in the process of getting himself off when the shot him.

I loved the scene after he rammed the pedestian overpass with the K-9 unit dog snapping at the tank and all the deputies walking up with their 9mms drawn, like they were going to shot the tires out? put a hole in the fuel tank? OR just show the guy that they meant business.

Too bad they could not have gotten the Marines to dispatch a TOW Cobra or a TOW LAV for some live fire pratice. Air space was probably too crowded with the news helicopters circling around.

Sorry to digress. It was an M60 that he stole from a National Guard armory.

oh yah that's right Keyworth, he was trying to ram the overpass foundation that's why they opened fire.
anyways, my question is,
is it an M60? it might be a strange but kool diorama.

In case you didn't see this guy in action, he knowingly destroyed large numbers of vehicles, some with people in them who managed to only just escape in time. He intentionally tried to knock down an active overpass and, when the LAPD and Sheriff's Dept officers finally had to use lethal force, he was in the process of attempting to drive over the median into oncoming traffic on the freeway. The only reason he didn't kill anyone is divine intervention. He was given the opportunity to surrender and instead gunned the engine. Poor guy? Hardly. As far as overkill or waiting him out, there was no time left for that. Too many lives in the balance. I hope you never have to make that decision.

there was still no need to kill him. he wasn't going anywhere, and there was no ammo on board. coulda just waited him out, or dropped in tear gas

yup that's where i saw it, wildest police chase. cops shot the guy because they were afraid that the guy might load the tank and fire away. they opened the hatch and shot the guy. i think it's overkill. flashbangs or tear gas could incapacitate the guy.

There are still M-60A3's over here in Germany, in Grafenwere ( SP) , the OPFOR use them to wipe us out when we play there. as well as a few other toys they have like old bell hueys painted up like hinds and hummvs dressed up like BMP's just to name a few others.

Poor guy? From what I saw he was completly loony toons!

What I don't understand is why he had to be shot. I'm sure a can of teargas through one of the hatches would have done wonders. Either that or laughing gas..

Are the 60's still being used, by the way?

Poor guy. Getting shot just because he was driving a stolen tank. Possibly the Government or police were too scared with a tank on their roads running away. Anyway, The M-60 tank is cool. How about a group Build?

Oh I saw that on Wildest Police Chases. Was it an M-60? I'm sure it wasn't an Abrams.

remember a couple of years ago? there's a guy who stole a tank from an armory then drove the tank on the streets of california and the driver was gunned down (poor guy) when the tank got trapped on the dividers. i'm not sure about the details of the story but i just wanna ask what tank was it?
