DML 1/35 SU100 Complete 9/5
Posted by Tojo72 on Thursday, August 9, 2012 3:45 PM

Here's one I started on.Ben got me interested when he started his blog a few months ago,so I had to go and get one.It really is a great kit to build. It has a nice bit of PE,damaged fenders and fuel tanks, and Magic Tracks. No issues so far,all I added was an RB barrel I got on ebay for about $5.00 it is really nice and even has rifleing inside the barrel. All major assembly is completed,Magic Tracks assembled, and it has a coat of primer:

Thanks for looking

Tojo seeing as that the SU100 started out as  a T34/76/85 the hull and suspension boxes are leftovers from the Dragon kit. I do have a JSU122 too bad they don't make some AM interiors for the Soviet Tank Destroyers.

This is great - looking good!

I had that same magazine article when I built mine (well, started it - it remains far from finished)!

Glad I got you interested in trying the build.

Tojo, this looks great!  Was wondering if you could tell what what you used for the basecoat?

That color looks good for a Russian Green.  Can you tell me what colors you used for filtering?

Brian,I used Mig Productions,Tan for German Tri-Color Camo,I suppose any light brown or tan will do

A while ago someone on this forum,I can't remember who recommended that green, and I since have used it for my JSU-152 and my T-34 and I like the way it looks

Ben,if your going to learn magic tracks for the first time, any T-34 variant is probably the easiest to do them on,they slide in right over the road wheels and around the sprockets with ease

Hey Tojo,

I've used Magics many times but wasn't so keen on these? Perhaps I was having a bad day.

I must practice with them more and stop buying Friuls! The thing is the Friuls are so easy and look so damn good I'm sold on them! I've got quite a few sets upstairs in my room now.

I agree Ben,friuls do look fantastic and I have used them, but the big price bump recently got me off of them.I cant get them for less then $ 40.00 + shipping !! maybe for a special project, but I have been using the Magic tracks which can be tricky and the DS tracks whick are okay.I mean friuls double the cost of a kit!!!

All Finished today,I guess it came okay.Painted with Tamiya paints, weathered with some Mig products,AK stuff, and some oils. The only thing I added was the metal barrel by JB.All in all it is a good Dragon starter kit if you have never built a Dragon before. Thanks for looking, and the nice words of encouragement, and I am open to any critique.

I do have a nice figure set I might add to it.

Looks good from here! The only small suggestion I would make would be to tone down the rust effects a little bit on the front spare track run and the grousers on the fender. On my monitor at least they appear a bright orangeish color.
