Hey Rambo - MUCH better matey!

I'd recommend painting the tool clasps with the basecoat colour as they would have been metal (the bulging areas on the tool handles where the nubs on them push into the tank (I can see you have painted them the same wood colour as you used on the handles).

Well done dude,

What's next?

Ben

Rambo very nice build. you know the funny thing is that you have "in my book" captured the best looking wet look. but after it drys it go's by by.  i've never been able to keep that wet look on any of my tanks. and some of the stuff out there just dosn't work. anyway very cool work.i do like looking in on your builds.

Well, 'hobby historian' anyway. My love of war films generated an interest in the politics etc surrounding the conflicts and what really happened - and then I found modelling, armour modelling!

I'm still learning new stuff everyday so any advice helps..never thought about a graphite stick i guess that would give a nice not to silver and not to grey effect.. Hmm a Historian I was wanting to be a WWII Historian but instead i followed in my dads footsteps and became a hazardous chemical/ waste water operator... Thanks for the input

Hey Rambo old chum,

Aaah gotcha - I read your last photo post as saying it's done apart from tracks so apologies matey.

Keep at it. Hit it with another Raw Umber wash - Sienna is too red imo and looks unnatural. Then use a really dark wash as a pin wash to show panel lines and hatch edges etc. Pigments, grime and some dry-brushed silver on them bolt heads on the additional armour to make them pop will do the job nicely - unless you plan to cover it in muck. I didn't intend to make mine look this dusty but I'm damn glad I did as it has to be one of, if not my favourite piece yet! Just keep playing around with things and remember to show some bare metal on the drive sprocket teeth and rust on the muffler/tailpipe.

Sorry if I'm telling you the basics but I honestly don't know how long you've been building armour etc buddy. I'm 32 and have only been building for just over 3 years but on top of 20 years of being a ' WWI/WWII/Vietnam Hobby Historian' which helps me. I discovered the whole modelling thing by mistake!

Keep at it buddy, keep at it. Get a graphite stick too (the most silvery one) - also great for showing bare metal areas and can be rubbed with sand paper to make a pigment. Again - sorry if you know all this!

Take care,

Ben

What about the rust on the exposed tail pipe, bare metal on high wear areas i.e. drive sprocket teeth and some general muck?

C'mon dude - she ain't nowhere near finished!I'd say you are 60% of the way there.

More!

So shes done for right now I'm going to order some tracks for her then she will be complete but today i did a dot filter with oil paints (burnt umber.. super-marine blue.. titanium white) and also did a pin wash of burnt sienna don't think i will use that color for a pin wash again.. decided not to use the commander I had dropped him and his arm came off taking a third of the paint with (I've been dropping stuff a lot recently) i got a few pics of the Panzer after the dot filter would have had more but the wife's dog chewed the laptop charger up while we went out today so i was playing beat the clock with the battery to upload some to Photobucket (my desktop doesn't have a SD card reader) it died before all of them got up but here is what i have.. hope by next week i will have some nice workable tracks to go on her and tie her all together

these don't show it all done this was after the filter and pin wash had dried i've got the anttena added the kit tracks on.. the rags on the lights painted... and some other details added on too

As soon as I get a new laptop charger i will get more pics up so again all comments are welcome

Thank you for looking

The grey looks good.  Whiles it sucks to have the AB take a header like that, it sure is nice getting new hardware.

Well I got a new airbrush and got the tamiya German grey sprayed on the hull, turret and roadwheels

Got to add the grate on the side of the hull made from wire and after the paint dries put on a coat of future then start with the decals

the paint looks a bit darker then the pics show

again any comments are welcome

Thank you

Thanks everyone for you input it's appreciated. Got into the paint booth today and put on the brown base coat it's darker than what the pics show it to be..

Then disaster happened I was having trouble with my airbrush the other day but i cleaned it all out really good and it sprayed like brand new today.. Then when i was cleaning it out in the bathroom sink it slipped out of my hand and landed on the hard tile floor it bent the nozzle but that could be replaced it also bent one side of the treads all flat and it also bent the needle holder up to and somehow striped the treads out so my airbrush is rendered useless now. Tomorrow being Sunday i won't be able to buy a new one either...

Again Thanks for looking and any comments are welcome

Not a bad idea on the headlight covers, the paint work is coming along nicely as well. By the time of the French campaign they were fitted with cloth blackout covers with slits cut into them, you might consider that alternative as well or leave as is depending on your preference. Crews were very creative when they needed to be. Big Smile

Well decided I didn't like the look of the black out lights on this so I'm going to try something new with them... I've heard of tank crews covering the lights with shop towels.. rags.. ect.. to try to black them out so that is what I'm going to try to do. I cut a few pieces of thread tape it holds the shape really good of anything you put it on.

After that i went to put the chain on the smoke launchers but realized i didn't have any small enough so i just added some wire until i find some chain in the size i need

Then it was back to the paint booth to prime the road wheels and add preshade to the hull and turret getting all the panel lines, weld seams, grills and anything in shadow also added some light streaking

That's it for right now going to let the paint dry before i go in with the brown base color.. still not sure what paint I'm going to use for that.. also got the figure primed today as well

Thanks for looking and all the kind input

Any ideas are welcome

Nice work so far.

If the museum did that it was on 2 different vehicles.  Why would they do that twice much less once?  Does it add providence to that being a real detail on the vehicle?  The mystery remains.

It was a bad day all around today got the panzer primed but kept having trouble with my airbrush not wanting to syphon i kicked up the psi but that still didn't work either so i got through getting the body primed tore it down and soaked it in mineral spirits then cleaned it all out really good hopefully i can get it working better tomorrow.. Wish i had a gravity feed brush right now!! Then i just happened to look over and realized that after all that i forgot to prime the road wheels while i still had paint ready.. But the  good news is when the airbrush was working it was going good and even

That's fascinating...the strap isn't a detail I can find any evidence of in the reference photos in several different books I have on the Pz II...doesn't mean there wouldn't be one used but for exactly what seems to be a little mysterious given it's placement. I wonder if that's something the museum added? It wouldn't be the first time...
