Marry Well
Posted by bitbite on Friday, July 19, 2013 11:31 PM

I did.  While I was building models and drinking most of the day, my wife made this for me:

I didn't ask her to, she just did it.  She found an outbound entertainment center thing near the trash, had th step-son bring it up.  Put the TV on it, moved this case (it's two levels) over to another wall, put some stands in it, put the three models in it that I've done since I've been here, stuck a light up on the upper right (another is going in on the left), and here it is.

Gonna cover the bases with various terrain, and the maps you see in the back are from National Geographic Mag during WWII.  They're kinda valuable, but can scan them and put them up as a paper backing.  She says she's going to put a shelf up over the original two also.

What do you guys think?

Thank you.  I have just been told that when we have more space available, this case will be increased to three more shelves.  Again, this was all her idea I didn't even know it was happening.

Note my stash on the bottom shelf.  The new Firefly that I'm dreading on top.  Sad

I think I'll put the WWII German helmet she bought me on top of the case.  Big Smile

Yes, she puts "American Pickers" to shame.  It's actually what she does for a living but I get dibs if there's anything I want to keep.

Looking at the boxes in there, now that I'm sober Stick out tongue, they're actually false books.  I'm thinking it'd be cool to give them titles along the spines like, "War As I Knew It - George S. Patton," "Lost Victories - Eric von Manstein," etc.  and then maybe still create terrain on top of them (or leave them painted as books), then put appropriate vehicles on top.  Maybe?

nice. all of us who have wives who offer support for our hobby are indeed fortunate. i can make spines easy enough with the right dimensions. could probably just scan a spine from my library and size it.

That would be awesome!  It'd definately make for an unusual display.  Historical books with grass and dirt on the covers and tanks on top of them.  A very generous offer, thank you.  I'll get back to you as soon as I confer with her on this.

Thanks again!

Hmmm,

last time we discussed my hobby my wife gave me "the eye" and a new deal.
Buy one - drop ten.
Weight or unbuilt boxes.

My new MENG T90 took me from 107 to 97.
Kilos.

My L1500A costed two 1/48 Spitfires, Monograms 1/48 F-14A, Academy's 1/35 M3 Stuart and Italeri's Sahariana. I sort of got a 50% discount there Cool

I guess she is right, the stash will last until I celebrate 140 but my blood-pressure won't.
So that very important support can look very different.

Love here to bits - 27 years working towards 50 Big Smile

Nice one bitbite!

Very Best Regards
Johan

Awesome, bitbite. Better tread lightly though.

About a year ago, my wife cleaned out our spare bedroom and said it was mine to use for my model building. It contains a huge desk, L-shaped monstrosity with display shelves and tons of storage. WooHooo, heaven for me!!!

After a couple months, I got kicked outta there to make room for her niece who was living with grandma and not gettin along very well. Now, I'm working from a tiny desk in a corner of our living room. I have to climb out from the chair as there's no place to slide it to.

In my experience, those sorts of niceties are either: A) very temporary, or B) come at extreme costs.

Watch yer back, man.

Seriously, that's what happened, but I'm just giving ya grief. Sounds like you got yourself a real winner there. Do her a favor and maybe quit a bad habit or something.

Right now I'm tracking you through your IP and and will soon be kidnapping your wife. Or ummmm maybe her sister?

Go get her sister and my wife will probably build you a display case and buy you a model a month for life. She's in a relationship with a real loser at the moment.  Her sister, I mean.  Not my wife.  Wink

Ps - We also got a good laugh from your signature.  Eats

She's certainly a keeper. Mine is too, she just spent twenty minutes on hands and knees helping me look for a small part that escaped the work top.

My wife supports my hobby completely, sometimes goes to the LHS with me,accompanies me to shows, helps me with lost parts on the ground, never questions my purchases,of course I do control myself, provides cash when it's gift time,so I can use it for kits and supplies.I am definitely appreciative of her.I even drag her around to different military museums within reason.
