Good start.

I've always had a soft spot for the Tamiya PzIII, I should do one some day.

Thanks Sofa, and thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten to update this Sat.

Here the pics of the Pz III. The second colour is still a little tacky, so it will probably be tomorrow before I can get the decals on. But the figures have also arrived so I can be getting on with the rest of the dio as well.

Nice work on the camo pattern Bish. Always love seeing the 'Tropen' scheme on N. Afrika vehicles. Beer

Thanks Bill. I know its been a bit since an update, I have been concentrating on my Do 335. But I have got the markings on the Panzer and started weathering, so will have some pics hopefully tomorrow.

Finally got a bit done and able to do an up date. After the decals, I did some dry brushing followed by AK's filter followed by their weathering wash, both for DAK vehicles.

I used this filter on the 88 I did early this year, and now as then, I am still not sure I see the purpose of filters. Aside from making the two colours harder to distinguish, I can't see what else it has done. Or maybe its just me.

Well, here's where I am at.

 That's all for now.

Nice progress, the markings always bring a build to life IMHO. As for the filter purpose, that's exactly what they are supposed to do. It 'ties together' the finish with another added layer. Since the 'Tropen' tones are pretty close together to start with, any filter over them is going to mute their differences even further. Filters have a more dramatic effect when you've got more contrasting colors involved but the end result is still the same essentially.

Thanks Bill. I have been reading stuff about them bringing life and depth to a model, and I never really understood what this means. When I first started proper weathering a few years back, I use to give the model a light very thin coat of the base colour, so I guess the filter does the same thing. I only did one coat as I didn't want to lose the scheme completely.

markings are my favourite bit, it give the model an identity.

The markings blend in with the finish very well, can't wait to see this finished.

Nice progress Bish!

The filter really blended in your camouflage, although it was already gently subtle to begin with.  I wonder what the effect of that filter would be on a "hard edge" camouflage....

Keep these updates coming!

Thanks Jean. I think if it was the 3 colour Euro scheme with a bigger contrast in colours, it would have a much more subtle effect that this, though they don't actually do a ready made filter for those, I get the feeling these filters are more designed for single colour schemes.

Apologise for the lack of update's guys, progress has been a bit slow. I got into one of those slumps where it can be hard to get motivated, but I am getting back into it now.

Since the last update, I have added most of the tools road wheels and painted and added the jerry cans. I have done some light chipping and added some AK streaking grime to the vertical surfaces to make it a bit grimy. I have been in 2 minds about using AK's dust effects as I don't want to lose the camo completely. I have decided to add it to the lower hull and a light coat over the top decks. I will be doing that after adding the final tools and some stowage on the rear decks. I managed to find some rope for ship models today which I think will be ideal for tying things down, so I have ordered 2 sizes and should be here at the end of the week. In the meantime I will make a start on the figures and hopefully I can wrap this up once the rope arrives.

So, heres the pics of where I am at now.

And that it for now. Sorry my updates are not as informative as some of the other guys like doog and bill, i'll try and work on that for my next WiP thread.

Not informative?  if a picture is worth a thousand words then you just gave us 8000 and I'd say that was informative.

I understand about the modeling slumps just started digging   myself  out of one too

Thanks Steve, fortunately, this was a short one and I will blame it on having to put this kit to one side while waiting for paint. After doing the 335, it was hard to get my head back into armour mode.

Coming along nicely there Bish! I hear you about not wanting to lose the camo, applying it more to the lower hull and tracks should do the trick though. Wink

Thanks guys. Bill, as this was used in Tunisia in the winter, I figure it would not be as dusty as Libya in the summer. Looking at pics I was surprised at how green Tunisia is in places, so I think it will work nicely.

I got the rope today, I think its going to work a treat, should be getting the dust on in a day or so and then some pigments.

Bish its dirty, its grimy, its roughed up and its awesome. I love the attention to detail especially what you've done with the road wheels, recesses and high use areas. I understand the concern over using pigments, but lightly done in the right areas it may not affect it at all. You would hate to lose that nice subtle camo.  She's looking great Bish.

Thanks jibber. Its not the pigments so much as the dust effects. Its an enamel product AK does that gives a dusty look. I will add pigments to the lower areas after that.

I have only started using the AK stuff. I really like the in grained dusty look it leaves that armour has after time in the field. Even after washing down they still have that dusty look. I then use the pigments for the more built up dust and dirt. I'll get some pics up hopefully tomorrow, should have the dust and pigments done by then.

I got this build finished last night and have just got the final pics done. After the last ones, I adding some light chipping. Once all the final bits were added and tied down, it got that light coat of AK dust effects and then some pigments. I like the pigmenst as I can build up the piles of dust that build up in corners and around the road wheels. I used Bills methods of adding pigments, which are new to me, and I loved the effect it leaves, just what I am looking for. Cheers Bill.

Then I just had to finish off the figures. Figures is one area I had really wanted to work on, especially the faces and eyes. So I have been using some new techniques over the last couple of builds and I think I am now where I want to be with my figures, with maybe a little bit more tweaking.

Thanks for sticking with it through the slight delay and for all your comments. As always, comments and suggestions of all kinds are welcome.

Oh, now THAT's NICE!  Gorgeous!

I love the setting---reminds me of Athens, where I proposed to Jenn a few years ago!

Everything looks appropriate and nicely finished. The weathering is spot-on. What a great scene---good composition and spacing, yup, everything works!!!

Thanks Karl, from you that means a huge amount. I was in two minds about which direction to face the tank, so I asked my other half, I think she made a good choice. The figures took some tie to work out the best position. Got there in the end.

Now Athens is one place I would love to visit, I will get there one of these days, Athens and Rome.
