So much details...looks amazing.

With the figures, it will just come to life. Like the zebra cammo also.

Nice job on brushing that. I dry brush before any thing else. I just do it for the base colour. You could also try giving it a thin coat of the base colour sprayed all over which help tie it together.

High everyone first thing is I would like to say thanks to everyone that is following along on the build and giving great suggestions.  I finished my camo today. I think it looks ok for a first attempt.  I have a couple of questions as I get ready to go forward.  Just to let everyone know that I use Vallejo’s product range because my better half has an adverse reaction to enamels and I refuse to have to do my weathering outside.  I just got Airbrushing and Weathering Techniques by Rob Ferreira and it is a great book for tricks on using Vallejo products. Now back to the questions.

1.      Do you dry brush a tri color camo pattern in a lighter shade for each color or just the base color?

2.       Do you dry brush before or after the filter to tie the colors together?

Thanks again for all the help and encouragement from everyone.

Finally got some new work done after 6 weeks. I was hoping to do a sprayed camo pattern but my airbrush will not do it even with a soft mask. It is only good for base coating and varnishing. So I said hell with it and I am doing it by hand with a brush.  I like the two colors even though I think the green is to dark, but it works for me. The two colors are Vallejo saddle brown and yellow olive.

Hello!

Good to see you working again!

Your model is lookin' good! I don't know what paint you're using, but I believe you could be able to pry the rocket launcher out with some caution. Now your model could use some shading or some camo to make it look even more interesting! Good luck with your build and have a nidce day

Hi everyone there has been a slight slow down to the build because of a condition that would not let me sit in any chair. Great news is I am on the mend and should be setting at the desk again by next week. Here is an update of what I had completed before the condition struck.
I had completed the launcher and primed the whole thing in Vallejo black primer.  I let that set up for 24 hours and then applied a base coat of a Vallejo Dark Yellow / light brown mix. The mix helped cut down on some of the green tint of the Dark Yellow.
Lesson Learned:  Do not paint the Rocket Launcher on the body of the vehicle.  It is now in a permanent location.  That is what happens when you are lazy and did not want to mask the opening.

Coming together nicley there Robert.

Yep, tipping over the glue is a regular thing for me. I had not done it in ages, but i returned to the old habit a few days ago. Lucykly the bottle was nearly empty and no damage done.

Glad to hear you were able to control the disaster. Spilt cement, been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Looking forward to more photos.

Looking good! Been there and done that with the liquid glue, glad there wasn't any permanent damage as a result. Wink As for the interior disappearing, you'll always have the photos to look back on if nothing else! Big Smile

Hi everyone, the build is progressing nicely. Just finished up the main body of the vehicle and luckily all the angles worked out. I just needed a little putty around one side of the front of the vehicle.  I used the liquid testors plastic cement and the extra working time allowed me to get the angles to come out right. Of course I had a great blunder that I dumped over the glue and lost ½ the bottle that stuff is good it eat my lines off the cutting mat and drenched the end on one finder side of my model. Luckily I remembered not to touch the plastic and just let it dry, no damage was done.  I have decided that I am going to leave the body off the chasse till I finish painting it and then I will put them to gather for weathering, It will be easier than typing off the bottom part of the running gears.  These pictures show it just temporally sitting on the chasse.

Finally got the interior painted and weathered.  The rockets were painted field gray and dry brushed and used some pigments on the floor. I think that it has a very well used look. It is a shame that 80% of the work will never be seen. The better half asked why I was doing it and I told her it is great practice.  Tomorrow I will be getting the half’s glued together.  We will see how the fit is with all those angles. Thanks for stopping by to see how everything is going.

I actually have the original Italeri boxing of this kit and am wondering what brand tracks you used?

Thanks Mikeym_us. The tracks that I used came with the kit. My kit was the Tamiya re-box. One of the things they did was put in new tracks. They were very nice to work with.

I'm in favor of the paint job you did it actually should make it easier to see the interior detail versus a darker color. I actually have the original Italeri boxing of this kit and am wondering what brand tracks you used?

Thanks Robert. I did not think about checking the Nuts and Bolts range, i like those. Which number is it, i'll have a look for that.

And thats a great help. Some times we can only do so much and with the info we have, we have to make a best guess. I often do that and if it turns out to be wrong, so be it, i will live with it. The interiour of mine will be hard to see because of the figures i am useing, but the red floor an dthe lighter sides do look god, right or not. I will probably do that myself.

And i forgot to add, i like the chipping as well. I am not a fan of over done chipping, but i think this looks very appropriate and well done. I will definaltly be useing your build for referance.

Edit: cancel my last on the book, found it, number 30. Thanks for the heads up.

I hate to play devils advocate, but shouldn't the floor be dunkelgelb as well?

Eric,
You could be right but this is very little information on the interior of this vehicle. It primarily is a fully enclosed fighting vehicles and I opted to paint it with those colors.

Thats an interesting look. Where you did you find the info for this. I have been woundering if it should be the normal German AFV interiour colour of Dark Yellow. I have not been able to find much info on the vehicle.

Bish,
I have the Nuts and Bolts book on the vehicle and the walk around photos of the only operational example the floors look like they were a primer red at one time now mostly bear steel.  I am with you on that there is very little information on the interior of this vehicle.  I looked through a couple of web sites and forums and could not find anything specific.  So I made an educated guess.   The Sd. Ffz. 4/1 is in all reality an enclosed fighting vehicle. The top hatch doors when open are not that large especially with someone in it so I decided to go with the colors for an enclosed fighting vehicle of the time.  The vehicles were developed in 1943 at about the same time that the orders to change the floor colors to primer red were issued.  So I decided to go with the interior as the Elfenbein and the floor in the primer red.  The inside of the hatches will be painted the same as the exterior of the vehicle.  I don’t know if I am right or wrong but that is how I arrived at my colors.    I know it is not a lot of help but I hope it will help you make some color chooses even if they are totally different from mine.

Thanks Steve, Some time I find trying to get the right color is more challenging than the actual glueing of parts.

Thanks Tojo72 and Gamera for hanging in with the build.

Just a quick update I still have not finished the painting of the interior yet but I I am getting closer. I paint the interior walls and ceilings with Model color Buff. I think the color comes close for me on the interior color of German AFV.  I was going to paint the floor buff like a lot of builds and then I decided to do some research and found out the floor color was a couple of different colors but buff was not one. I found out that in 1943 they started to paint the floors primer red. I decided to go that way but of course I did not have that color so a winged it. I like the color but I think it might be a little to red but It will work.  Of course I had to chip the inside I just like the way it looks, probable a little heavy for a lot of people. I still need to pin wash and finish weathering the inside.

Bill and Hobbyist greatly appreciate the encouragement. I should have the interior finished up this weekend so I can close it up.
