Looks great Pawel! Nice work on correcting the windows. And I know only the most basic skills of soldering- your work looks perfect to me. Yes

Mark, Gamera - I'm sorry for replying so late and thanks a lot for your kind words!

In the meantime I was working on the interior of the workshop. The work was draggin' on and somehow I didn't make in-progress photos... Until now - so here's where I am with the workshop:

Looks great Pawel! I assume you're adding some tools and parts on the work shop tables? That's all it needs is some clutter!

Gamera, Gino - thanks a lot for your kind words!

Gamera - I just thought if I put too many loose objects there in real life they would create a real mayhem once the truck starts movin' (the roads in the east aren't all too good, you know).

Friends on the Polish forum try to trick me into lighting the interior with LEDs...

Thanks a lot for your comments and have a nice day!

Hello!

Awright, I let them talk me into it...

About exactly 2$ worth of materials:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

10 white LEDs, 10 100 Ohm resistors and 2 meters (about 6 feet) kynar wire.

Surprise: Israeli Jerry Cans!:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

The plan is to make lamps bodies out of them!

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

Here are the cans sanded up and LEDs soldered together with the resistors. This will giva a current trough the LED of about 15mA

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

I want to cut the jerry cans up in slices about 1mm thick, shaped like shallow Cs...

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

...and two such parts would form the lamp housing when glued to the roof. Connections:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

"Minus" on white wire, "Plus" on green wire. A popsicle stick with masking tape sticky side up really help hold those little parts before soldering:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

After soldering the LEDs fit into their housings:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

Now it's a time for a test:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

It works! (although I have to tell you that for the first time one of them didn't work - some investigation revealed a faulty resistor). One more thing to do was to add lenses made out of matted clear sheet and cabling channels made out of strips of sheet styrene:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

Now I have to quickly finish the interior and put it all together. The plan is to power this baby with an USB cable that would connect to one of the boxes under the rear of the van. Thanks for reading and have a nice day

Hi Pawel!

Hey, I hope you got my mail! Now On this. Does GAZ have old FORD parts in stock? LOL! That looks like an old 57 - 352 - V-8 from my Ford with a different manifold. Good looking work so far. I started on page two and worked backwards! It's nice that you are lighting it. That's gonna make it POP!!!

Hi!

Oh Boy! This is looking nice. Now see? you are using Gas cans to make light fixtures. I used to use Bombs and Ultra Small Hurricane Lamp Chimney holders( The Tapered Glass part on top) What you have here is very unique. Now I have to wonder why some of the R.C. Boaters I know that light stuff haven't tried this. It looks so much better!

Hi Pawel!

It's Me Agin!  I love what you're doing to this ZIL/GAZ? Truck. I have a question though, Not related to it. Have you seen ANY of the older ICM kits of American U.S. Coast Guard Inland Patrol Boats. Back in the Seventies They made Two very nicely detailed ones. In about 1/35-1/32, Scale I think. If you see something like that would you message me? They would've been Forties or Forty-Twos.

Hello gennulmen!

Thanks a lot for your comments and for your kind words!

TB - I don't know how well known the fact is in the US, but Americans helped to develop soviet automotive industry for decades - it started with GAZ AA -a copy of the Ford AA, and it went on even in cold war - the coviet Lada cars and KamAZ trucks wer built in factories equipped with Americam machines (that happened in the seventies). I wouldn't be the least surprised if that V8 was at least a little copied from an American design.

For example the first passenger car manufactured in Poland after WWII was a licence of the soviet "Pobeda" (=victory), powered by a GMC engine from the CCKW, but cut down to 4 cylinders from 6 - creativity!

Sorry, I've never seen a ship by ICM... Can you give me some more details on that? Maybe some other manufacturer (Zvezda?).

After some thought I went with the suggestion from Gamera (Thanks a lot!) and added some 3D printeg, scratchbuilt and gizmological clutter. Here's what the workshop looks like now:

Looks awesome to me Pawel! I swear I can smell the machine oil. Heart

And no problem, it just seems to me that clutter is one of those universal constants. You get it everywhere.

It might (only might) want a thin, grubby grey-brown was at the floor (only) to tracked in dirt/mud.

Saw a trick (somewhere) bit of thinned Oily Black and put it in a drop of Gloss to make "shiny spills" on work benches.

Don't know if that's appropriate here.

Looks really good.

Oh,Pawel, For Sure:

I was quite surprised how much the large cars the Politburo rode around in,  resembled Buicks and Packards. There even one that Resembled a late model of the Kaiser-Frazer, Hatchback Sedan. When the hatch was shut, it still looked like a ordinary four door sedan. The trucks I knew about and noticed a passing resemblance on some to International trucks too. Especially the Cabs, Windshields and Doors!

As to the drive trains, Yes, I knew they were patterned on the American Counterparts I knew well, especially Chevy and Ford. Question, Now that you have that beautiful rolling shop what are the figures, I just know you are going to put in there, going to be working on? That is just so awesome. I know I sound like a broken record, don't I? I just love your work!

Is that a water valve I See on the Bench? Whattsa Matter, the seal fail? The I.C.M. Models I was led to believe came from Checzkloslovakia or Poland, Poland being the most likely because of the high Quality.

Hello!

Thanks a lot for your comments and please excuse me for writing so late - I was on vacation with my family and somehow couldn't log in from my phone...

Cap'n - some guys from the Polish modelling forum had very similar thoughts to yours, so I guess I'll have to dirty the floor and the tables up a little more, although some dirt is already there, but apparently not enough.

TB - believe it or not, but that water valve startet it's life as a piece of sprue and really didn't neet that much scratchbuilding... Like I already wrote the original truck belonged to the Charkov's heating networks, so I thought working on a valve to be fixed or replaced would fit...

And ICM is an Ukrainian manufacturer. Looks like they are still operating despite the war going on.

So I'll try to dirty the workshop up a little more, have a nice day!

Hello!

After some thought I decided to "dirty up" the interior just a little. Here's how it looks now:

But that's it - now I'm closing it all up!

That looks incredible.

Especially given that the camera often "hides" light weathering, or will over-enhance heavy eweathering, so, that's looking just right.

Hello everybody!

Thanks a lot for your comments and for your kind words! I'm so glad you like what I have so far.

TB - OK, so the plan to show off that interior has two points. One - lighting it up. Two - leaving one half of the rear doors and one of the windows open.

And I have managed to close up the van. I connected the wires and I'm glad to report that the LEDs still work. Here are the photos I took just now:

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

1:35 ICM ZiL-131 by Pawel

Some of the wiring will be hidden under the large hatch on the right side, and the power connector will be enclosed in one of the small boxes under the rear of the vehicle.

Some people find the LEDs to be too bright - I can still adjust the brightness at this point, so what do you say - should I dim them or let them be?

Thanks in advance for your comments and have a nice day
