Back from Shizuoka! (Was: "Off to Shizuoka!")
Posted by J-Hulk on Thursday, May 13, 2004 7:29 AM
Well folks, the big hobby show is on in Shizuoka, Japan this week, and I'm off to it for the next three days! Fellow poster (and fellow denizen of Japan) Brazen will be there, as well as TamiyaCon winner HeavyArty, coming over from the States! Of course, our own Norio Takemura (work's been keeping him form posting lately) will be there, too.
So there will be at least four FSMers at the show, and maybe five if yet another fellow denizen of Japan Dagne goes (shhhh! He builds them kooky flyin' machines!).
And of course, our own Norio Takemura (work's been keeping him form posting lately) will be there!

Doesn't FSM send any staff over for the show? You'd think they would...one of the biggest model and hobby shows in the world!

Anyhooo, amongst the four or so of us who are going, I'm sure we'll have plenty o' news 'n' pix for ya'll when we get back. Big Smile [:D]

OK, so when I get Mr. Tamiya cornered, what do ya'll want? 1/16 Panther? Wink [;)]

Or how about some mainstream but ignored 1/35th scale projects, like in Israeli Centurion -- you know, just the lil ol tank that fought in the largest tank battles in history?

Or the AMX-13, which has been all over the world fighting virtually everywhere in the post-war period?

A WWII artillery piece would be nice too, particularly one of the heavy Russian guns that were built in the thousands.

i have no requests for Mr. Tamiya.
my kit backlog is already unmanagable!
but i would appreciate it if you told him i said "thanks".

I wouldn't know where to place a 1/35th scale Dora, a 1/16th scale version wouldn't even fit in my house................but it would look great. Cool [8D]

Hello all,
Sorry but I won't be seeing any of you at Shizuoka. I was not able to get a passport in time to travel. My model went with the guys from Tamiya though, so you will be able to see it there. Tamiya still wants me to go to Japan and see their factory and the other sights at a later date though. They are also giving me a bunch of models, so all is not lost. Hope you guys have a great time.

And I'm back!
The show was great! Too bad you couldn't make it this year, Gino. I saw your amazing piece of work, though! Got a few pix, too. Let me know when you'll be coming!

There were over 130 clubs and 5,000 models on display! Sensory overload, to say the least.

I brought home Trumpeter's 1/16 T-34/76 '42 Mod, for a sweet 15,000 yen ($136 USD). Niiiiice kit!

Dagne was there! Nice guy! So there were four acknowledged FSMer's at the show (maybe more--ya never know!).

Mr. Tamiya did not reveal any secrets to me, but he did remember me from last year!

Yeesh...I'm too tired to write anymore or post any pix tonight, so ya'll are gonna hafta wait til tomorrow!

I will say this, though: the new Tamiya Challenger II ROCKS!!!!
