Just wondering if there are evil carpet monsters that have attacked anyone elses PlasticEvil [}:)] Last night I was working on my Academy M113. When I cut one of the pieces off of the sprue i didnt secure it with my finger, and up in the air it went I saw the general area where it landed, but when I looked there was nothing there , nothing at all I must have looked for 30 minutes. I truly believe there are evil Monsters who thrive on PlasticSad [:(]

NO, I believe that there are "shape-shifters" that exist in another dimension, that model too. I've stopped counting how many times I have lost parts, I swore that fell at my feet. Wern't you told, that a part of modeling was done on your knees ...!Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Mischief [:-,]

I ve lost many parts to that carpet moster. But Every time I lose a small piece I search for it. I have spent 20 mins on my hands and nees befor I found what I was looking for, I even found anoer piece from a different model!Shock [:O]

Hey Joe, I think they are just thirsty for some good paint!Big Smile [:D] I had a whole bottle of Tamiya mettalic gray, and just like that, it was gone.
Maybe oneday there will be an exterminator for the capret montsers. We could call him DR. Tile, or Woody Floor, or even Concrete CramerBig Smile [:D]

Well it happens to me just about every build I do. Sometimes I find it......others well you know. One time though I saw a peice drop spent 30mins looking gave up then found it in my shoe at the supermarket, then lost it again in travel, then my daughter found it on the floor board.Oh ya then there is the part where the monster does need a drink...................... well you think know you twist the cap on tight,a week later open it and its gone?

The wandering parts kinda go with the territory. I've spent many many hours hunting around on the floor over the years. I try to use the flashlight and the masking tape now. It seems to speed up the process, specially tape when I'm hunting a PE piece! I'haven't lost any bottles of paint though, great, something else to worry about!!

Anti CM tip.
Put a piece of stocking (perferably one the wife doesn't need anymore) over the end of a vacuum hose, click on and cover the appropriate area. Bingo, missing piece. Even the most fierce carpet monster cannot hang onto the part . Haven't tried to recover any missing bottles of paint this way though.

Yeah that would be perfect a concrete floor. How do you kill a pest go where they live and flush em out. Unfortunatly I live in an apartment and they might have a problem with me removing the carpet.

I work in the basement, with a concrete floor. Only problem is that it's not painted so it's still grey. I've lossed many parts to the concrete monster. Most parts fall right at my feet, I watch them hit the floor and then spend 15-20 minutes looking with no luck. I've thought about putting a cheap, white rug under my work table, but don't want to tempt the carpet monster to go after my paint. :)

I have a theory that carpets are actually a portal to a parallel universe (along with clothes dryers). Seriously, here's my approach to the seemingly universal problem of lost bits and pieces in the carpet. At any rate, it's worked for me. Here it is: Place a large sheet of clear plastic on the floor around your work area--the kind for weather proofing windows. Make sure the plastic extends at least several feet beyond the table. Nothing down there then but a smooth surface and no crevices or miniture gullies for small items to hide in. Since I've started doing this, I've had almost a one hundred percent success rate in finding dropped pieces. Not only that, the plastic protects the carpet from paint and glue spills. This alone can go a long way toward promoting domestic tranquility with your significant other.

The Carpet Monster drove me away from doing 1/72 builds for that very reason...at least with 1/35 I have a decent shot at finding something dropped! Big Smile [:D]

I vaccuum the carpet after every build to both cleanup after a kit and to have a fresh carpet when I start the next one. My wife refuses to clean in that area at all while I've got a project going.

As far as thirsty CMs go, mine should be good for a while as it recently claimed nearly half a bottle of Testor's MM Dunkelgelb due to carelessness on my part... Sad [:(]

I have marble floor tiles in my house that also house the distant cousin of the carpet monster. Even vacuuming with a cloth over the end of the hose fails to recover missing parts from the jaws of that beast.

Yeah, I can imagine a carpet monster that swallows models whole instead of just piceces. I think I would have to move somewhere with concrete floors.

Well I was working on my first tank...a tiger I and was removing those little tab thingies from the sprue tree that hold the spare tracks on the turrent and it was tweezerpulted away. I watched it in sloow motion yelling "NOOOOOOOOOO (no in slow motion)" and right before it hit the biege carpet this little green scaly, clawed hand popped out and snatched it. Then its ugly little toothy head popped up and it eat the part while it stared at me. Even the cat ran away. I jumped up and got ready to do battle but it snarled at me... pretty scary so I let it have it.
Hmmm maybe I'll take inventory of my paints now.

I have a Hardwood Floor Monster.
You drop on part on this thing, and BAM! That part'll rocket off at an impossible angle, at near-light speed, covering vast distances in a split second. Your best bet is to listen for it to skitter to a stop, but that almost never indicates its accurate location.
I've lost some pretty big pieces to this flat, featureless surface.
Drives me nuts!
