Edited the build description to suggest that we keep our kit selection to ourselves until we start building. Should be interesting to see what people choose ....

Larry

Just a suggestion but maybe you should put this thread in the group build section to see if it can generate more interest. My 2 cents [2c] Smile [:)]

Larry,

I would like to joinf this also if possible. I know little about allied armor and even less about 1/72 scale stuff, but I will pick up a kit and see how it goes.

IMO the Group Build forum is a graveyard. No one really goes there just to post and read. I know I don't, anyway. When the towed gun GB got moved over there, it immediately died.

Mmm, it's not that bad Larry, honestly. The Paper project and prototypes GB is doing quite well in there and so are a few others I'm not part of. Even the Mad Fokker Day thread has been kept very much on page 1 ever since I dreamt it up in August...

I know we can't say what we are going to build, but since I don't know anything about 1/72 kits, which is better? Hasegawa, Italeri, Revell, Airfix, or I think it's called Hat.

Any input would be appreciated.

I just got into modeling 1/72 scale armor recently and found the quality of kits even within the same manufacturer's line varied so greatly that it was really frustrating. That is until I found the "On The Way" web site by Doug Chaltry. He has an extensive list of almost all 1/72 armor kits with reviews and photos of kits and assembled models. He only does 1/72 scale though, no 1/76 kits. He also has a good links page that will take you to some other good sites for information.

http://www.ontheway.us/default.htm

Larry, I am new here so I am not familiar with the dynamics of the different pages but kept having to dig to the third or fourth page to find the thread. I guess we just need to add posts on a more regular basis. Big Smile [:D]

Hey Tediam, you can say if you want to! I thought it might be fun to keep it a secret, so as to see what everyone chooses, but if you want to discuss it, go ahead!

Good kits are based on the individual kit in 1/72, more than the manufacturer per se. One Kit mentioned as beng very good for this build is the Revell Cromwell.

Check the kit out here:
http://www.mkzobor.host.sk/foto/laco/cromwell/cromwell.htm

I started a thread on this on Missing Lynx in their braille scale forum a few months ago, and got tons of responses. You might want to check that out. My user name is the same there as it is here, Larry_Dunn.

On the way, as already mentioend, is also a great way to find out what kits are good and what ones aren't, but remember the guys passionate enough to put up a website are very finicky about quality. Don't let all the negative comments about the Sherman kits get you down. Just do one, by gum! Remember, it's a speed build for a challenge and the experience, not the Mona Lisa!

Well, I bought 4 kits. I will decide when they get here. They sure are alot cheaper than their bigger cousins. Can't wait to start. I really like trying new things. Thanks for having me.

Italeri makes some Nice 1/72 stuff. I havent built the Hasegawa or the Airfix stuff so I cant comment on them. Revell, I have heard a lot of people liked them, I did not like the one kit I built, in fact, its half finished. just myMy 2 cents [2c]

I picked up one of Revell's T34/76 kits which was combined with an infantry package only to discover that the T34 was a repackaged 1/76 old matchbox kit. Yikes... Angry [:(!] like I said before, best to do some research before you purchase any kit from any manufacturer. Others have said many good things about Revell's newer releases but I haven't tried them yet. Still getting over that last experience.

BTW picked up the kit I'm going to use for the build. Looking forward to it.

Razor, Revell seems to be releasing all those old Matchbox kits. Just saw the M7 Priest and the Firefly too.. Maybe not the best available now, but great cheap kits for kids and newcomers though!
