"The Hunters GB" (2/1/08 to 6/1/08)

The 5-sided shield is from Alkett.

Interestingly, I could model it with a Pak 35/36 with just a regular gun shield, too - if I had one in 1:76, that is (Revell make one with their ex-Matchbox Krupp Protze). I would think that would give it a lower profile (but less firepower).

Did they really make that version? Do you have a pic or link?

very interesting thread, I have learned a ton just from reading.. do you accept rookies? :) I am in the process of finishing my first "armor" (couple bad 1:72s for the modern armor GB), and will start my Revival artillery build soon, figure I can add another to my list... can I join in with the Tamiya 1:35 SU-85? OOB, Im just starting! Cheers :) James

Would love to have you aboard. Just please hold off on building until next Friday February 1. You may wash your sprues however.

Tax return should arrive around the beging of February. So I am leaning towards the new tooled JagdTiger, with ModelKasten track, Aber barrel, and some suitible PE. That is unless I build my Sd.Kfz. 251/22 pretty much straight OOB To save money for another railcar fo my dio. I still have to pick up my DML sFH 18 for the Artillery group build

Quite a list! I can see why you don't need any more Jagdpanzer IVs!

I'm leaning toward doing two builds. It'll be March before I can really get my zimmerit sorted out, so I was thinking of building the Type 89 TD first. I researched it on the web yesterday, www.sinodefense.com called it 'a dinosaur from the Cold War,' and only about 100 were built before relations between China and Russia normalised in the early 90s and the need for such a vehicle disappeared. Interested? Or is the GB meant to be WWII exclusively?

Whatever, I'll go onto the Tamiya StuG IV when I can get the AMs together, whichever configuration I settle on.

PS: My Tamiya Japanese Type 74 just went through the paintshop, it's drying as I type this -- JGSDF Green, with lightened and darkened oversprays, my first time for this method of doing a monocolor scheme. I'm hoping to have her finished and on the shelf before Feb. 1st.

I know nothing about the Type 89, but if it were classified as such, then go ahead. Also, don't feel as if you can't build the Jagdpanzer just because 5 are already down. Build what you'd like.

By feaux-pas you mean beginning early? No worries. I'm still struggling with my stinking Tiger (I've finally found a set of Fruils that actually do require drilling almost every link). I'm also committed to build a Grant for the Aussie GB which ends in April, so the Jagdpanther will have to wait her turn. I've also got a T34 or two that are calling...

Just teasing. It's tempting to begin early. I'll probably wash down the sprues this weekend, but that is as far as I'll go.

In addition to the Hunters GB, I'm also doing the Winter Warriors GB (Tamiya T34), War in the Desert (ICM PzII), RAAF/RAN (Tamiya Grant), Modern African Wars (Tamiya Land Rover), Liberation of Western Europe (DML Tiger I) and Artillery (Verlinden PaK43).

So I've got at least a couple of locked-in-the-workshop weekends coming up. One of those GBs finishes in April (RAAF/RAN), four in May, one in June (this one), and Modern African Wars ends in December. So far the only two I've finished are Kursk and Armor Interiors, and this Tiger for the LWE GB is taking forever.

 Does the PaK43 meet the qualifications for an artillerie group build. As it was an anti-tank weapon and not really an artillerie piece. off my now you will be a very busy guy with all those group builds

Best to ask the coordinator of the GB. His interpretations might be different. If they are looking for a true field-howitzer, than I'd say no. Just MHO.

Instead of wanting the M18 my dad switched to a Tiger I, I would however like to be on the list still as I'm going to a model show with Geist in Feb. so I'll see what I can find since I don't have any unstarted TDs at the moment

Wow JT!!  Did I just count SEVEN GBs??  I thought I had it rough with five!!

Yeah, that's why I didn't join the Modern Armor GB. They say the first step is admitting you have a problem.

BTW, yeah we discussed the admissibility of PaK guns for the Artillery GB. I think an exception was made at some point because they were sometimes used in roles other than direct-fire anti-armor (destroying farmhouses used as enemy observation points, etc).

I did get to spend some time on the T34 last night (for the Winter Warriors GB). Nice to work on something other than Tiger tracks for a change.

NINE GBs???  TEN kits???  And you're facilitating the Winter Warriors GB AND have a full time job??   WOW!!  How will you find the time dupes??

For you Jagdpanzer IV builders:  Do you think they look better with or without the shurzen?  I'm not sure which way to go.

Excellent question my friend. I love them with schurzen. My only problem is that I don't see any lates with them. The ones with the longer Panther 75mm. My Johann Huber has the longer 75 and comes with beautiful PE schurzen with what must be a 100 seperate PE bolts! I'm going to attempt them myself, unless someone can prove that they shouldn't have them on.
