"The Hunters GB" (2/1/08 to 6/1/08)

Okay, I've ordered up StuG III references and PE grills, Cavalier Zim next, and I picked up some Jagdpanzer stuff at the same time, Academy trackset, Eduard barrel. The Tamiya vehicle accessories were out of stock, they'll follow on later. More zim... Dunno if I'll have everything I need in time for this GB, but the StuG III is a go.

I'll play with the hairdryer again and see if I can't coax these damned Trumpeter tracks to play the game.

... and the bad news is, the tracks shrank back to precisely their original length when they cooled! Well, darn... I seem to be up against a brick wall, it'll take some figuring out. If Trumpeter had a parts servcie I could order an extra track and section it, splice it in and have the necessary length that way, but they don't to the best of my knowledge.

I'll order some Cavalier Zim for the Tamiya stuG III. Can anybody recommend on-vehicle accessories for this kit? It comes without stowage. Oh, and I'll pick up StuG III in Action as a ref.

This is early Trumpeter -- no L&L included... If anybody made a set for the Chinese WZ371 chassis I'd be considering it right now!

(I suppose it balances out, though, I got an M1A1HA in the same batch and the vinyl tracks were missing (good job they include L&Ls) -- and a complete motorization pack, not mentioned in the plans, was in the box!)

I'll have another go with the hairdryer...

It looks fabulous, I'm so proud of myself, and I thought it would have look awful, well it looks better with the tracks and some of the assesories on.

Trumpeter update -- I've been having a go at stretching the tracks to compensate for their 13mm shortness. I've clamped them to a sheet of card at one end, the other end weighted, and I use a hairdryer to heat the vinyl. In theory it should work but after three applications of heat I've noticed that, upon cooling, the vinyl shrinks again. Whether it shrinks by 100% of its stretch I'm not sure, all I can do is keep on applying heat and see what happens.

I'm thinking of laying in the bits and pieces to do a Tamiya StuG, just in case I can't fix this problem in reasonable time for the GB.

Well, I got some work done on the hellcat. Just blasted everything with white, will go back and put the correct colors.

This is just all the major components put together( no glue).

and Fantacmet here are some of the photos. I'm having problems with my scanner i'll get some more to you as soon as I can.

Hey thanks guys. Apart from the Zimm, i pretty much built this OOB. I think the green on the cupola was a little OTT. I saw the effect on another cupola and thought it looked great. Im afraid mine didnt come up to the same standard. I will dirty her up a bit more. It definately needs some mud on the wheels. Thanks again for the comments lads.

Oh yeah, the wheel masks were made by my goodself with a circle cutter on some firm card. I used the white backing sheet that comes with Eduards PE.

Beuatiful Stug IV Guy. I think the zim is quite passable, much better than the one I had for my Panther. Photos are a bit bright, but I think I can make out all the detail. Love the tracks BTW. Well earned badge.

Hey all. Finally finished me Stugly with the PE zimm. I must admit i was a bit apprehensive about the zimm but it actually went on reasonably well. I added a dragon Stug crew, which IMO didnt go too bad for my 2nd ever figures. Faces are a bit poor but the next will be better. i promise. Anyhoo. Heres some pics. Comments and crits as per usuall.

Looking snappy Svenne.

Getting close to painting. I test fitted the top to the bottom hull and was surprised it didn't fit. If I kind of pull the upper half apart a bit, it will fall in. Scared me. There will be some interesting puttying to do near the tranny. Won't be easy. Also, the aluminum gun barrel is too heavy, so I'll have to use the travel-lock to hold it up. Still don't know if I'll put the PE shileds on, probably not.

The SU-76 proves to be a very interesting build.
The absence of positioning holes/indicators in the sub assemblies makes most subs a bit off a challenge.
The quality off the molds is not excellent which means that some components are molded with high flash and at the same time the part is only 95 % represented.

And still, I must say that I enjoy the kit BIG times.

Here is a progress pic, the main gun is pretty much there, a first layer off Tamiya Dark Yellow has been applied to reveal mayor flaws.
The quality off the picture is not great I know, its taken with a mobile phone.

Hi all,

There was a post way back about repairing damage to the textured treadplate on an Italeri Jagdpanzer IV. I just found that Extratech make PE treadplates in 1:35 and a variety of styles -- one of these may be appropriate to fix this kind of problem. Sand away all surface detail in the fender region, replace with the PE item.

Geist - digging the Hornisse. I think I've seen the pic you were using for reference - you certainly nailed the winter scheme that was shown there. Good stuff!

Another build I would have liked to hijack for Winter Warriors...hehehehhe.

Nice diorama there, simple and intersting, speaking of dio, I have started on the base yet, but has a simple idea for it, and the hetzer is doing great.

And a new thecnique for the camo, play doh.
