  It's the same string/rope I used on Reich Raider. The diameter is .028 which for 1/35 scales out to .98 (almost an inch). I guess that would still be a bit on the large side but, what the heck, that's all these guys had (ha,ha,).

As for the future, I'll check out that rope you suggested.

Dang, it was 6 months wasn't it. How time flies. I'm glad you thought it worth the wait. I almost didn't post it 'cause I was beginning to think it didn't look too hot. You know, when you look at something every day(6 months), you get used to it..... you lose your objectivity.

Anyway, judging from the response I've gotten here, I'm gonna be a little more positive on the attitude. 

Now the chains, well, I thought scratching those functional chains was something I came up with myself.......  OH well.

...nope, beat you to that one!!!..and I must say it was a real test of my modeling skills (and patience).  I think your execution was better though, I couldn't get the backside to wrap the way I wanted, but I was happy with the front.  If you don't mind I'll post my Krupp here, you may have seen this already, but I think you'll appreciate the effort having gone through it yourself:

Disastermaster - finally found some time to let the dialup chug to get some of these pics to load...WOW. What a spectacular build! I'm sure everyone else has covered all of the individual aspects - but as a whole it's wonderful!

I certainly suffer from this problem...one reason I try to build fairly quickly. You seem to have overcome it, though, with a completely consistent build - everything looks right throughout! Great stuff!

No offense taken at all. 

My theory is that this is just "a moment in time" and does not represent any particular vehicle. Lack of a picture (within reason) doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Besides, with all the variables in daily living, (not to mention the unexpected surprises of a war zone) I don't think it would be too unreasonable to see something like this late in the war.

One of the "Fun" things about armor to me is the "artistic" aspect. If a hobby isn't fun, well, it might as well be just another job.

 We all have the ability, 'ya just need the determination….. Trying to “wear in” the chains on the tires, in my opinion, is just a “bridge too far” as I don’t think it can be done and look proper.

A good observation and a mindful reason the chains couldn’t be worn into the tires, they “are” removable and therefore would be constantly “re-indexed” so to speak. Thank you for your vote of confidence.

This is what you’ll need…


I decided not to use the thread as it kept breaking and used some VERY fine steel wire.

and here are the chains from hobby lobby……..


This was just the perfect size..


But here are the measurements for sure….


And the specs for each wheel…


Remember that if each link is not exactly the same dimension there could be an accumulated difference possibly requiring an additional link.

Get a piece of DENSE Styrofoam and proceed like this….


Should come out like this with some patience….


How ‘ya hangin’ .............

Should look like this.

Use cheap rattlecan paint in accumulated mists followed by alcohol/pastel washes.

Gee dupes, I know it’s your normal policy not to view anything with a lot of pictures due to the slowness of dialup. The fact that you took the time to wait it out is a compliment in itself. Many, many thanks.

I guess one reason (among  others) that I don’t post builds often is the objectivity thing. I put it aside (current project) for a short while at different stages to refresh my perspective, giving me a better picture of how well (or not so well) I’ve progressed. I can stay focused in this manner. If I don’t, I just tend to wander around…try this, try that, wander, wander and finally get totally frustrated. I guess this is what is commonly known as patience. You know the old saying, “Patience has its rewards”.
Building quickly might cost you accuracy or the perfection you desire but we’re all wired differently, so, what works for one may not work for others.

Hope you like my new adventurous look, however, I might go back to my boring old self. Just look for the “brandname” to avoid confusion.

I “will” surely keep up the “troll watch”.

This is the Tamiya kit. Be careful when handling/painting the drivetrain components, they are very fragile and for the most part consist of one piece.

Thanks for posting this tire chain tutorial it will help not only the WWII guys but us Modern War builders as well you should think about putting in it the Mag.

 Yes, this is the only one I built. Believe it or not, I took this to a local contest in May and it barely got a look, much less any kind of an award. One of my friends was in earshot and heard some comments by the judges, "That finish looks bad" and "It just don't look real inside, must be a newbie". Yep, IPMS contest.

  You might win big at one, but the next one may be a real loser. Perception is reality, and like a$$holes and opinions, everyone has a different one....different sizes, different colors (different smells, ewww). It's that Forrest Gump deal, box of chocolates, 'ya know.

 It don't bother me though, I'm confident in my abilities; just thought I'd mention it in case someone else got bumped and might let it get the best of them. Drive over it and press on.

  BTW, it should be featured in the next IPMS modelers member magazine gallery (what a mouthful) coming out soon. 

  Your comments and appraisal are very much appreciated. Each response on this thread has contributed greatly to my quest to build ......maybe not the very finest, but maybe a most intriguing subject with interesting details.

  One thing for sure, my typing sure is getting better......
