clean looking build, I like what i see so far. Keep up the good work.

I encourage you to go out on a limb and try the wash on the tranny. It will look awesome just remember to keep your wash very thin and build it up slowly. There is a fine line between a wash to bring out detail and a dirty mess. I use acrylics for my washes, about a 5 to 1 mix and a touch of future or windex.

Good luck

A Black oil wash on that transmission would help to bring out some detail, if you think you would like to try it?

I've never really tried anything like that before. Wow, I need to get this model back out! I havent done anythign to it since April, not long after I went back to work!

Yes, he did design it.....because he is AWESOME!!!! He also lead Ford to beat Ferarri with the GT40 while he was keeping his own project, the cobra, racing. He's my hero!
Nothing like seeing "two palm trees humpin' a garbage can"!! That's what we called the heavy lift guys when I was on an EH-60 at Fort Carson back in '91.
I'll never look at garbage cans the same again.

Looking good, glad you're back to work now.

I hear what you're saying on the dash detail! lol

I forget how small the interior is

Progress has been slow as I am back to work again, and when I get home I dont feel like doing much LOL But here is an idea of what the interior is looking like. The dash will most likely be black with white face gages. I'm going to try to detail the radio and climate controls a bit too, but damn they look small!

Thanks for looking!

LOL. I'm ready to go back to work! I work for Honda, and they laid us off for 3 weeks. The vacation has been nice, but I'm ready to go back. Thanks for the comments!

That looks so nice! The break pads turned out really good, add a lot to the whole chassis- and congratulations on going back to work!

Progress has been a bit slow the last couple days as I am preparing to go back to work from my layoff and I havent had a lot of time to put into the model. The interior is slowly coming along, but as of this moment the chassis is complete save for the rear suspension, which will be glued on today after the paint dries I hope. Thanks for looking!

WOW!! No problem on the photos- that's some amazing detail! I can only imagine how good it looks in person. I thought you drybrushed it, but that's a really cool technique.

Well, the brake discs and the calipers are all painted up, and thanks to one of the MANY techniques I am learning after finding this site, I was able to paint the raised "Viper" lettering on the calipers silver by using a pencil eraser dipping in silver paint, then touching the eraser to the caliper. AWESOME idea! I will be using it again when I paint the lettering on the body when its complete. Anyway, here's a picture. Sorry for the crappy quality. I think the super macro function on my camera was too good for its own good LOL. I think the brakes look MUCH better in person.

Thanks for looking!

I get all my wiring etc from detailmaster, you'll find a comprehensive list on their website.

Remember , common sense is not common.

I was kind of impressed myself with how it turned out. I havent painted a model with a spray can for ten years or so...LOL

Well, it's finally warm enough in Ohio to paint outside today! So I took advantage of the temperature to paint the chassis of my Viper. The drive train is pretty much complete, except for the rear differential cover. Until I can mask/putty off the body, I'll be working on painting the valve covers and the upper intake plenum. I've also started to paint the interior parts as well.

Thanks for looking!

Not a whole lot of progress to report on as its been too damn cold here in Ohio to go outside and paint! So I've been slowly working on the interior and the engine bay. The engine halves were painted in Model Masters Steel and the headers were painted in MM Gun Metal. Don't get me started on how much of a pain those headers were to paint. The mufflers under the car will most likely be painted either flat black with the rest of the chassis or MM Steel, and the side pipes will be flat black. Here's a couple pictures of the engine on the trees, and then dry mounted onto the unpainted chassis:

And here is a picture of what the finished engine will most likely resemble, except I will be painting Plum Crazy where the blue is painted here in the area of the dual electronic throttle control:

Thanks for looking!

Well, I've finally decided on a color scheme for my 1st Viper. I know the car in this model year, or maybe any model year for that matter, was never painted this color, but...I decided on Plum Crazy, to relive the Mopar glory days. The exterior will be Plum Crazy, with the interior being a base of flat black with dark gray accents on the seats and doors and touches of Plum Crazy on the shifter and whatnot...maybe a little steel color on the console, I'm not sure yet. The engine will be standard Viper V-10 red, and I havent decided whether to paint the calipers red or Plum Crazy. I think the red would look better. Anyway, all I have painted thus far are the engine halves, oil pan, front engine piece, rear differential and the belts. Updates as they become available.

Well, my local Radio Shack didnt have any 30 gauge wrapping wire. The smallest they had was 24 gauge, and that looked to big for my project. So...after looking around the house, I found an old data wire I used to use with an old router for my computer. It has 5 colors of wire inside: green, blue, red, black and white; after measuring it with my wire gauger, it turns out the wire is 32 gauge, at least as far as I can tell. Its pretty close between a 30 and 32 anyways. But anyway, this is what I will be using for my plug wires in my Viper.

My Rookie instinct tells me I should have searched first...duh. Looks like wrapping wire from Radio Shack is the way to go on this one. 50ft. will last me a lifetime.

Oh ok yeah- that sounds good. Sorry- wish I could help with the wires, I tend to work in 1/35 primarily and all I have is some speaker wire from Radio Shack, even then, it really looks better in 1/16

I'm sure one of the Auto pros will step in and tell you what they use.

The small part of the door panels (speakers, door handle area, arm rest, etc.) I would make the same color as the rest of the interior, but yes the rest of the door would be the same color as the exterior. The black one that I posted the link for above is laid out this way as well. Thanks for the comment. Any info on the wires for the engine?

When I do custom paint jobs I usually take the body color into the interior in one way or another- ie: Plumb Crazy exterior and a black interior then I'd add in Plumb Crazy striping on the seats, maybe some detail work on the dash/door pannels etc? Just a thought.

Well, I'm going to mke a trip to WalMart and the hobby shop today to do a little shopping for my Viper project. Couple questions: Where does everyone get the small wires for the plug wires in the engine bays? They are obviously pretty small wires. Does the hobby shop or Wally World have something along those lines? Second: I'm now thinking of going with a custom color for this first Viper. The GTS will be the blue with white stripes, but now I'm kinda thinking crazy...Plum Crazy to be exact...about the RT/10. I know they never made the RT/10s in Plum Crazy, but do you think it would look bad? What color interior do you think if I go the Plum Crazy route? Tan? Gray? Black? Thanks for looking!
