Finished everything up after dinner at the in-laws. 

On top of my china cabinet with my Dad's ashes and the little 1/25 scale I did for now.  I still need to get a clear case to put the car in. 

A few of the actual car for comparison.  The back bumper is different, but I couldn't find one, and I didn't trust myself enough to modify the kit one without destroying it.

And one of me and my Dad from 10 years ago when he gave me the car.  She had been sitting in his garage for 8 years.  It took me and hubby roughly 2 weeks of working a few hours at night to get her going again.  Of course Dad was out there supervising.

Beautiful job Keyda...everything looks great!! You should be proud of yourself.

Body and chassis together.  It's getting super mixed emotions now with it almost being done.

Glad to see the Shapeway parts were good to use.  Looks like a great build comming together. 

Oh, and paint bottle jumping from the table is a sign from the ether-net that the project is going very smoothly..........well, that’s what I tell myself anyway, ‘cause it can’t be my fault

roony, Thank you.  I took care of a lot of the packing and what not, so hubby could just rest, lol. 

I've been plugging away all morning.  I did work on it a bit last night until I sent a bottle of paint somersaulting through the air and onto the floor, and I don't know how it even happened.  I figured it was time to quit for the night after that lol!

Engine in the chassis.  I realized my flub with the heater hoses being routed inside the wires, and have since moved them.

Rear end set up with my scratch made traction bars.

Exhaust and some front end stuff installed.

Interior in the body.

Rest of the drivetrain installed.

Rims/tires, rear bumper/valance.

All that's left to do is put the wheels on, put the body and chassis together, and install the rear bumper/valance.  Very close to being done, and very nervous about putting the two big components together, keeping my fingers crossed they go together with out much fuss. 

I'm in awe of the paint job of the fan on the engine.  Glad your husband is better, I didn't think hunting would be relaxing or resting.  Looking forward to see it all together.

Thanks Hunter, he's doing much better now.  We spent a week away from home hunting right after he got out of the hospital, so he's had time to relax and heal.

Thanks Duster.  The parts were a little on the rough side, but not too bad, and that was really only the steering wheel, and air cleaner assembely.  I didn't sand the air cleaner lid as it is so thin I would sand right through it.

Now that I'm back from hunting, and have nothing planned in the near future other than having Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow I'm hoping to finish this up over the holiday weekend.

You have gotten a good grip on the building part alright. 

On the Shapeways parts,  you may need to prepare them and possibly shape (sand paper/fine file?) There are sites like  you tube vids that show what may need to be done to make the part look like you expect it to.  Don’t be put off, you’re a capable modeler and can handle anything needed.

Thank you Hunter!  No I didn't wet sand.  I thought about, but I haven't tried that yet, and I didn't want this to be a test bed.  I'm so used to doing flat paint jobs, lol.  I'm always to nervous to try something new, eventually I get over that, and try it.  I could improve on the paint job, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  Now I will just impaitently wait for my parts to arrive in the mail!  Then I can finish up the motor and start getting all the major components together.  At least all the little fiddly stuff that takes forever to do is done.  I've took the time to pay attention to the details.  Usually when I get towards the end of the build I kind of rush because I get excited to see the finished product and I miss the little details.  I totally forgot I bought pastels to use for weathering on "Flak Bait".  I think the only thing I missed on this is painting the rear view mirror back black.  I might still yank the mirror off and paint it, lol.  Depends if I can forget about it or not!

 

 

 

 

LOL....I know what you mean about waiting for those parts to come in the snail mail. I too get impaitent at the end of a build wanting to rush it. Recently I have been practicing techniques on my first build so I can get them down. You have done a wonderful job on this build as a tribute to your father.

 

 

Ugh I loathe waiting for stuff.  I paid for it, I don't have the money and I don't have what I paid for!  Lol.  The parts will be here tomorrow, but I'm not sure when I can get back to working on it.  Hubby is in the hospital with gallbladder issues, so I've been spending most of my time up there with him.  I have sure learned a lot from the my first C-130 build to the last which was "Flak Bait"  Thank you Hunter!

You have done such a wonderful job! You have immensely improved your technique and skill process so much. Outstanding! I love the photo of your dad also...One question, did you wet sand in between gloss coats?

Before you know it, you and Joe(Mustang1989) are going to be BFF building custom plastic hotrods LOL

I think this was after he had the car painted red.  The car was yellow when he purchased it in August 1981.

Thanks T.B.!  It's nice to have a full size reference right in the garage, lol.  Makes it a lot easier to add all the little details that are not listed in the directions.  Makes me realize how many details are missed with most of the aircraft models I do.

I finished adding some of the exterior bits and adding some details here and there.  I'm pretty much stuck until at least Monday when I should get my parts.

I'm hoping I can work on it and get it finished up in the begining of the week, but I'm not sure how that is going to go since apparently I have to prepare to go hunting for the week.

Cadet Chuck, that is fast!  I always hate waiting on things to be delivered.  The fact that it didn't even have to leave the state of NY but went to Ohio is what irks me.

I've enjoyed watching the build. Specially as it's in tribute to your father.  Can't help thinking, me being in Canada, this is a Zed-28, instead of your Zee-28.  Zed just sounds so much better for a muscle car.  Hope your parts arrive soon, and you finish it up.  Again my condolence on your loss.  Enjoy the 1:1 as well.

littletimmy, That is usually how it goes with me too!  I've had my fair share of touch ups on this one!

Cadet Chuck, it's horrible!  It shipped on the 7th, and it's taking a week to get to me when it's in the same state!  I just picked the standard shipping method, it didn't specify what they were going to use, had I known.  At least it's back in the state of NY now.  Thank you!

That "SmartPost" is the stupidest method of shipping ever!  I have had three orders lost by the post office with that nonsense.  I will always pay extra to have it shipped direct to the house by FedEx or UPS just to avoid the hassle.  Sometimes it's less than a dollar more.

Made quite a bit of progress with painting today.  I landed up painting the areas near the wiper cowling and under the rear window by hand.  It's not perfect, but overall I'm happy with how the stripes came out.

My parts won't be here until at least Monday.  Shapeways.com uses the worst shipping method, UPS smart post.  It's sooo slow.  It didn't even have to leave the state, but for some reason or another it went to Ohio and then back to NY.  Weird.  Once the parts come I'm sure I can wrap this up rather quickly.  Looking forward to seeing it all done.  I'm sure it will also be a bittersweet moment for me.
