I'll probably be down at my brother's this weekend, and if it's not raining I'll shoot a dozen or so pics. The blue car has a 497" motor in it that runs like a Swiss watch. The green car is absolutly stock except for the pistons and camshaft, and runs 12.9's thru the mufflers and street tires. It's been on the front page of several magazines a muscle car catalogs. None of the two have had any bondo or body work ever done to them other than a new paint job.

Hey Man, your Charger is out of sight. Simply fantastic already, and its not finished yet. One question, though, do the paint colors in your link apply to Plymouths also? I'm starting a '68 Road Runner to match the one I used to own (and could kick myself for ever selling). I know it had a "special edition" 383 but I can't remember the color of the block.

Also does anyone know where I can find the 383 I need for this build?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you have a 440 or 426 wedge setting around in a cigar box all you need to do is shorten the deck hights about 3/4" You'll also want to shorten the valley a little bit), and make two spacers to go between the intake and the heads. But the difference between the two deck hights is really minimal (about .031").

Dodge and Plymouth both used the same color codes with some very minor exceptions (buff silver for one). Brother had a buff silver 68 two door sedan Roadrunner that would run mid thirteens thru the mufflers (383 4 speed). I had a 69 hemi Roadrunner in a bronze two door hardtop.

hey guys, sorry to hijack the thread, but i'm looking up pics of Cudas with 440-6s and i see a lot of them in orange, but i thought it would be Chrysler Engine Blue, is the orange 440 a Cuda thing, or a mopar thing, or should it actualy be blue? i do have both colors on hand. Thanks guys

it was pretty dark and overcast around here Sunday, and don't think I can get anything workable inside his garage. The first bright and sunny day we'll get them for you.

I know you'll never believe the two storys about these cars, but swear they're true. He found the green car in a barn after it'd been parked almost twenty years prior. The blue car was owned by an old lady in California, and didn't even have a door ding in it!

For all our Canadian friends here, let me tell you that the Canadian six pac setup is alittle different that the American one. They used a completely different set of carbs that had accelerator pumps on each carb instead of just the center one. The carbs look just like the ones from a Ford, but have a much higher flow rate (some think they work better). There's also a well founded rumor floating around that there will be a six pac manifold offered for the street hemi engines later this year along with a brand new two four barrel intake for the newer hemis (I'm kinda interested in that setup in a roadster project).

Mate I can believe the stories. There are still treasures to be found out there. I saw the tail end of a '61 Impala setting in a garage in Juliette, GA about 7-8 yrs ago. My dad owned a 1970 Monte Carlo factory stock with the 300hp 350 Turbo-Fire, all original one owner car never been any major work done on it and sold it out from under us siblings for a measly, (are you setting down?) $200. I know of a concrete block garage that has a completely dismantled 1969 Plymouth six pac in it. It's all there and has been there since about 1975. Won't part with it! There's also a 1969 Dart GTS in my neighborhood that's virtually mint. An old man and woman own it and drive it every now and then. Many people have tried to buy it, and they won't sell it. The red paint is so oxydized that it almost looks like primer; yet it has no rust or dings on it. There's an old guy that has a really nice 40 Ford near the IMS. He has at least three complete sets of Ardun heads, and a bunch of speed equipment for Ford four bangers. He's saving it for his grandson. A new set of Ardun heads will set you back over $12K !!!! There is a garage setting on Gasoline Alley that has eight Ford Four Cam Indy engines from the sixties it. I saw them once, and they're never gonna be for sale.

I took several photos of both cars today, and it was a fight from the get go. Buth think it's done. Will have to lighten them up a bit as I didn't use a fill flash. I'm also going to divide them into two folders as they are two different cars, and one of the setups is not quite factory stock. I should have them done tonight.

There was a question about the correct color of the engines, and I ran that by my brother.

* all six pacs are painted hemi orange; no matter what year they're built. BUT: there was a very small few built with the aqua colored motors in 1970 (very, very few)

*most all 375 hp. 440's in 1969 & 1970 were hemi orange (single four barrel)

*all 1969 and later automatic transmission cars used a different linkage setup than 1968 and earlier. The kickdown rod is shorter due to engine placement, and has a ball crank mounted on the right side of the intake almost above the bell housing.

* not all six pac cars had the fiberglass hood as you'll see in the photos. Only the Roadrunner, and Super Bee did.

* lastly ( not to ruin anybody's day): the cars were shipped with a Mopar branded battery that had Mopar molded in the sides of the battery case.

so basicly all raised block performance engines are painted orange (note the 350hp 440 is still aqua). Many race cars were shipped with Baldwin high pressure oil filters that are an orange color, but a few of them were also white with green lettering. All 383's were painted aqua.

Gibson make small block Chevy's http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page22.html scroll down to the bottom, he lists two small blocks there. No pics though. Doesn't state the size, I would be willing to bet 327 & 350.

So long folks!

Bill,

It's a 265" SBC, and remember the 55 & 56 blocks are slightly different than the 57 or later. The earlier ones had the oil filter as an option and didn't have the boss cast in the block for them if I remember right (I have not seen an original 55 block in way, way too many years). Otherwise the blocks are all similar on the outside, but watch out for the correct exhaust manifolds. Ram's horn ones didn't show up till late 57.

We got pictures (all 559 meg of them). I went thru two battery packs trying to figure out what was making the camera run so slow (12 meg Fuji S3pro). Went thru three different XD cards, and thought for awhile the camera was dieing. Turned out that somewhere along the line I had it setup for raw footage. I converted them to Jpeg I think, but in case you can't make the work I also did them in raw on the disc. Anyway I have four disc setting here, and thought I'd just send them to one of you, and then you all can fight over them (I can always make more). 559 meg is way too much to upload! So one of you email me with an address. Also not if this won't open up let me know, and I shoot them all over again in Jpeg.

after some thought, I've decided to reshoot all those pics again. I think I can do better (not think I know I can). Anyway I've burnt four discs (files are huge), and the next set will be pure Jpeg. So sometime this weekend everybody that wants a disc let me know, and I'll have them in the mail asap.

One of the prime spots for the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour is about a mile west of me, and on most Saturday nights we'll see a couple hundred cars of all kinds.

just PM me a mailing address. I hope to shoot another batch of pics tomorrow afternoon. Looks like the weather's going down hill this weeked, so the hotrods will probably stay home. I'm going down there anyway just to see if anybody shows up.

What we really need is to catch my brother building a "B block" while it's on the engine stand. We missed out on that awhile back as he built about a dozen engines over the past winter months. I do know he's going to do some work on three P-7 Dodge engines (NASCAR race engines) sometime later in the year. One's going into a 1964 light weight car, and another will be in a 32 Ford or a Duster (still up in the air). Can't wait to seem one up close.

squeakie,

Brother man sounds like someone we all would like to get to know! I wish they would bring big blocks back to NASCAR. The only problem, is they just can't get the revs out of a big block that you can out of a small block. They would be great for Bristol!

a race hemi with a 3 3/4" stroke is capable of 9,000 rpm, but realisticly never much used above 8,000rpm. A long rod hemi will have a very flat horsepower cure all the way up to 7500rpm (Kellog crank and rods). But a wedge will be done somewhere around 7,000 rpm. The new hemis actually flow as much air as the 426 hemi heads did (how?). As for revs that's no problem. All you do is gear to the horsepower curve (look at the Daytona Charger that's run at Bonneville).

actually I have all the animals I can stand right now!! (in spades) I have a very spoiled female cat indoors, and a small familly of stray cats dwelling under my deck out back (been there since they were kittens), plus every stray cat in the neighborhood drops by more often than I care for. Ontop of that I'm constantly live trapping racoons and possums (usually two or three a week). Then there is the local squirrel population that are better entertainment most of the time than the TV. Havn't had any coyotes in the last two years, and also didn't see any deer on the golf course right behind me this winter. I have to keep the cats out back just to stay ahead of the chipmunks!

I know this may sound sorta silly, but are you close to crocs?

Nope, live in a pretty populated area. You certainly do have enough animals around, I'll....um... see if I can find something else. lol
