Outstanding work... many of us have learned from your posts and tutorials, but this is one build in which we put our tools down and just look and enjoy a master at work. Exquisite composition and details, not to mention master weathering techniques. Thanks again for sharing, I do hope to see tha piece of art in some show some day! Cheers..

Oh, just one question...  What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? Wink [;)]

What do you mean--an African or a European swallow?

Hey thanks, JMart--that's a very generous compliment! I appreciate it! Wink [;)]

Doog, Istand in complete and total awe of your modeling skills.Bow [bow] Everyone has already pointed out all the great details, so I'll just a say "WOW!" to the entire build and the tutorial which you published on this forum.

As an example of the excellence of the build, I showed the pictures to my wife, who is not a real big modeling fan, and she was as amazed as I am.

Keep 'em coming.

Ian--Thanks! To do the groundwork, I put real dirt down over the dried Celluclay. Then, I cut up some swaths of typical railroad-style grass that I found in my LHS into 5-6 mm lengths, and then mixed those in a container with crushed-up real autumn leaves that I had collected last year. The sprinkled this mixture over white glue over the dirt. Some longer grass swaths went into holes drilled into the base, and spread with my tweezers to lay right. I ezpect now that you'll go on to present some masterpiece in the next few weeks using this technique? If I know you...? LOL! [;)

To qote the Harry Potter movie my sister is watching...."Brilliant!"  Somehow I always thought of those long railroad grasses for just tall field clumps standing straight up, never thought of cutting them up and using them as more traditional grasses.  I'll have to go some of that Woodland Scenics grass I have sitting around.  I'm not sure which I enjoy more in your tutorials--the pure content and pictures, or the detailed steps and willingness to share techniques in your responses.

Now, doog. This is very interesting because you didn't start this project that long ago at all and it looks like an international IPMS winner, yet, IPMS winners spend upto a year on their entry, but still wouldn't look as good as that.

Go figure

Doog, that is an amazing piece of work. I've been holding off making a comment on this build as I wanted to wait and see what you did for the diorama, and I am speechless. Excellent work!

So long folks!

Doog, I've had my share of 56's in my day and they all probably look like this or worse by now. The small details on the car are just awesome but the left front fender is from a 210? Fantastic work on the car itself, and great work on the diorama too!Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup]Big Smile [:D]
Well, I built the B-52. Now what am I gonna do with all my free time

Thanks again, Ian!

I realize that I should do a tutorial on my bases, but to be honest, I get in something like a state of zen when I'm doing certain steps, where I'm completely lost in the moment of capturing something I see in my head, and I just never think to stop and phtograph it. Hope you can use the technique/tip I just tried to describe! Tongue [:P]

somenewguy--hey, thanks for the compliment! I didn't realize that this build really didn't take that long I guess, in relation to some of my other projects? I was actually surprised how quickly it came together once I got the "Bunnies" in....those darned bunnies held up the show while they were being shipped! LOL!

Thanks too, Bgrigg! I'm happy that ou like it!

And LO51 MERC; thanks for commenting! The model is intact as is--I'm not sure what you mean about the fender being from a "210" (?!?!) I did remove the molding on the left front fender....is that what you are seeing?

Thanks again, all, for your comments!!!! Big Smile [:D]

Doog

That is one fantastic diorama.  So life like and true to the way one would expect a rusty vehicle to be.  Many kudos for a spendid job.  Words can't even begin to describe this masterpiece.  Another Rembrant/Michelangelo you are.

Loved the bunnies.  I can just picture Elmer Fudd slinking around hunting those wrascally little wrabbits.Laugh [(-D]Dinner [dinner]

doog:  Pretty spectacular work there...the corrosive rust work is phenomenal!!! I may elevate you to "Sir the doog" soon.  Your cross-over work to other build genres is unbelievable...the weatherhead knowledge sure came in handy on this one, huh!?

By the way, check out IPMS latest issue, it features a beat-up camaro or firebird, I forget, but anyway, it's really exceptional work too...you'll get a kick seeing it.

doog:  About that Firebird/ Camaro in IPMS, glad you saw it...coincidental timing to your build, huh?  I am amazed how realistic that car and yours look...they both remind me of many a "rustbucket" I saw in Chicago...in fact, my buddy had an old Pinto wagon...last count was 9 colors, two of which were primer, I think the rust was the only thing holding it together!Laugh [(-D]  Your Nomad, although older, brings back some good memories...thanks for sharing a little more of a lighthearted build with us.Thumbs Up [tup]

What do you have in store for armor next?.....hmmmm......do tell, do tell...Wink [;)]

Doog,

Finally got my butt over here to check out the pics.  Great build!  I thnk it tops some of your recent armor, even as great as it has been lately.  Don't tell Jen, but this is way better than the horses (not that they were bad!Smile [:)])

Just one question.  With all that hair, could you really spare any hairspray for the model??Wink [;)]
