I have been planning this one for a long time and finally got started on it. It is based on a Revell 1/48 B-17E.Pic 1 - LARGE set of plans - Paul Matt drawings. Pic 2 - patching up the slots. The C-75 has slots at the leading edge toward the wingtips.Pic 3 - major surgery. The C-75 has no superchargers.
I plan to vacuform the fuselage. Here's my homemade vac machine.
Reporting to the moved thread! Nice machine. I built similar one years ago, but only did a few canopies on it, otherwise it just sits there unused - kinda pity. But still it COULD be used when the need comes. Question is: is your machine going to handle a fuselage that big? That boeing is pretty hefty in 1/48. Anyhow, I'll be watching, good luck and have a nice day

I will need to build a new larger frame to hold the plastic, but that will be no problem, just $7 at the hardware store..
Pic 1 - Backing added to hold putty filler. The 307 had only one vent on the leading edge.

What do you plan on using for the engine cowlings and the propellers since you are using the F as the basic structure to build off of.

In pic 1 at the bottom you can see the modified T-6 cowling that I am going to use as a vac mold to make the 4 cowlings. The props will be modified from the kit props.
This is great! I wish someone would make an actual kit of the 307 in 48 scale. Interested in selling a kit? I'd buy a couple.
Great job, will be following this one with interest. Which I had the skills to do this, as I've always wanted a 307.
I would be willing to sell a vac fuselage, it will be VERY ROUGH though. Wait 'til I get a pic posted and you can decide.

Do you plan on putting in the cooling air outlet slots at the end of each wing? Kinda curious how one would do that.
I believe you are referring to the anti-stall slots and they will definitely have to be added, they are very distinctive. Stay tuned I'll post pics.
Anti-stall slots sounds better. My Boeing cutaways book calls them cooling air exhaust slots, but that just didn't sound right especailly since they go all the way through the wing.

Using the Monogram DC-3 cowling kit parts I pulled four shortened versions on the Mattel vacuform.
Looks like your coming along nicely.
Finishing up the slots. Still need a bit of putty and another sanding, but you get the idea

Yeah, that's interesting - before you started the project I thought "new fuselage with everything else from the B-17". Now I see how many things need to be changed. And you do it just fine. So good luck - I look forward to see it done, and have a nice day

Hey Hawkeye, any progress on this? I finally track down a set of those plans! Only took a year! Still interested in a couple of those fuselodges.
Your timing is amazing, due to getting a couple of commision jobs I have had to put this one on hold. I just pulled it out to get it started back up last week. I have formed a couple of sets of fuselages and have decided to go with a thicker plastic. Usually have to make a choice to mold thin enough to capture all the detail and curve of a subject. In this case there isn't any. So now I'm waiting for the thicker styrene sheets to arrive. I'll post some pics later in the week.

Doesn't seem like it's been that long. Other projects and LIFE just got in the way.
