Hi:

Love all the pics and ideas for the Creature.  My only question is what happened to the article that was supposed to be in Sept issue on the Creaqture?

Gerry and mitsdude,

Thanks for the kind comments.

Mits: I wondered what to do about the base myself, because the blue seemed a little strange (hey the Creature's walking on water). In the end, since it was for a friend and I liked the bright color, I went with the water.

Post a pic of your's, I'd live to see it.

Cheers, Aaron

One of the all-time greatest movie creatures IMO. I think it would have been pretty scary for it's day in the 50's.

It's great to see these old Aurora gems come back. I had a few, but never painted them. Touche on your artistic touches.

Nice

I used the same color scheme as you except for the base.

I comtemplated blue (water) but instead went with a muddy brown color.

I definately don't excel at figures of any kind, and I never looked through the figure forums before, but after seeing this, I'll be stopping by more often, if only to admire the fine work! Bow Down

I finally read the recent FSM magazine yesterday... I bet that photo of the creature from the Black Lagoon is yours!  Again, beautiful work! Yes

Andy,

Thanks. Actually, the Creature in the magazine is the work of John C. Backenstross. (See his F-16 in the July issue.) I really did build mine for a friend, and it's one of the first models I've built in a while that wasn't for the magazine in one way or another.

Cheers, Aaron

Nice job. It was one of my favourites when I was a kid.

I have an old original Hunchback model that I have been thinking of restoring (Paint job by a 10 year old, me, looks pretty crappy) My question is should I replace the ropes with real "rope" and the iron rings with metal rings or should I just leave all the original parts on the model?

Winters may be cold in Canada but at least there are no mosquitoes or blackflies

After 1948, Universal ordered that all monsters be treated with a special anti-corrosion coating. The only rust seen after that was around joints during particularly long sea deployments. As this model represents the Creature after it's 1953 refit, the lack of rust is correct.Toast

Please, pardon me. I stand corrected.

Great job Aaron! I love these old movies and have to pick up some of the old Aurora monster kits and build them someday (sigh).

As Division 6 stated you got the paint just right. Julie Adams herself said the monster was a mossy green without the bright red lipstick.

Great job on the eyes among other things.

How did you paint the eyes?

Possibly an FSM article in the works?

Great job on the eyes among other things.

Good job. I build it last winter. When I was a kid I build all the moster models, Creature, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Dracula, Hunchback, and the Mummy. My brother bought all the releases and gave them to me for Christmas. So far I've build half of them. They are fun and bring back days of my youth.

Ah....so this is why you're hanging around...

Here all along i thought it was the scintillating posts.....I hope it was that and not the Hello Kitty stuff.....

Looks Great..... Less Filling, too !

...and you perfectly duplicated Manny's eyes after a few shots of vodka.

The eyes especially look good in the photos as well as the green shading.

First Griffon Spitfires, now Creatures....

you are a well rounded modeler!Toast

Freaking incredible paint job. Those eyes look evil!Bow Down

Just a thought... wonder how Liquitex thick gloss medium would look as water coming off the creature's slimy scales?Idea

Here's a custom version: same Creature kit, using after market resin parts:  New Creature head, arms, base, and girlfriend.  This was a lot of fun to do!

Manstein's revenge

 TomZ2:

Just thought I'd throw in a COLOR still from this BLACK & WHITE movie. (Actually I was FAR more interested in Julie Adams than the Creature.) Loved your hands, Aaron.

Aaron, if you wish I could paint up a girl for you to go with the creature...Whistling

Under the circumstances, I'll have to go with "a tall, cold beer."

Nice job.

I have an original Auroral I've stripped the old paint off of and will eventually restore.

The Life Magazine color images like the one posted above had additional paint added for the photos to liven it up like the red lips and gold scales.

The costume was a moss green and didn't have the other colors during filming.

Aaron,

Very nice work on that kit...doesn't even look like a styrene kit. You did an outstanding job on the shading. That is one (of many) skill that I have yet to master with my air brush. Hats off to a cool build

Manny,

The mold dates to 1963 so it's almost 50 years old. It has actually held up pretty good considering, but I use Apoxie Sculpt on almost all of the seams to make them disappear. But of course, all that work obliterated the scales so that meant a little more work. I punched out a lit of little styrene discs to cover the worst of the gaps.

Cheers, Aaron
