Warhammer "World Eaters" figures
Posted by SchattenSpartan on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 12:34 PM

Hi folks!

I'd like to announce my new figure project:

It's going to be some character-figures (only 3 figures at most) representing Space Marines of the Horus Heresy era (Warhammer 40k)

I'm into Warhammer 40k for a while now (not the game, the background stories) and read some novels published by Games Workshop.

After I read the book "Betrayer" I wanted to build myself some "World Eaters" figures. It's not for the tabletop game, but for the sake of just building and painting the figures (I'll still put them on the little supplied bases though)

This is just a fun-project for me and I'll work on it when I need a short break from classic modelling of real vehicles, so progress on this will be slow. I hope that some of you still follow this and maybe give me some tipps on how to improve the look of my figures.

I think most of you have little or no knowledge about Warhammer 40k (I can't blame you for it), but if you are interested on the background story of this project, just have a look at the lnks below:

Warhammer Wiki (for all information on the Warhammer universe)

World Eaters (my army) Only the pre-heresy and Horus Heresy parts are relevant for this project

Angron (their Primarch)

I really love this Science Fiction universe and I think it's worth having a look at it...

I'll just give you a short introduction on how I want my figures to look like:

Firstly, the whole World Eaters army (except a single type of unit) wears white armor with blue shoulder pads. They are basically bloodthirsty berzerkers who have brain implants which turn them into killing machines. This means that my figures will feature a lot of blood stains on their armor and loads of melee weapons.

All of this will sound like complete nonsense to you, but I hope at least some of you like the idea and probably look at the links as well...

Here's a nice artwork of a World-Eater in his armor:

And here's one of Angron:

Just one last note: I wont paint my figures like those on the GW website, as I don't like that "cartoony" look. I'll try to keep the colors as "realistic" as possible.

I really hope you like the Idea of it...

Cheers, Clemens

I'll start with a Moritat:

I reckon most of you don't know what that "Moritat"-thingy is, so here's a really short summary of what his function within the army is:

In every Space Marine army, there are several different types of troops (too much to explain for now. I'll cover the different units as I build/paint them).

One very special group of them is called "Destroyer Squads". They are basically the guys who have all the "fun"-stuff: They are experts for chemical, biological and nuclear warfare. While many of the Space Marine Legions despise the use of those weapons, the World Eaters like them and use them a lot. Those weapons stain the armor of their user and make the paint chip off. That's why the the Destroyer Squads and the Moritat (their commanding "officer") have none or not much paint left on their suits of armor.

The Moritat is basically a combat-proven Destroyer Marine with some special equipment to make him even more "badass".

How will my model of him look?

He will use the same armor mark as most of the Destroyer Marines in my army, but with some additions:

  • Additional armor plating
  • Some hoses for better air-conditioning and a cooler look Wink
  • 2 pistols
  • Green wings made out of pure energy instead of the rocket-backpacks the normal destroyers use
  • Lots of chains attached to the armor
  • A battle-axe
  • Heavy battle-damage on his armor
  • A mechanic foot (left) shaped similar to the foot of a bird of prey
  • A mechanic lower leg (right) including the same kind foot as above
  • some blood stains on the armor (maybe also some blood coming out of cracks in his armor)

Now to the pose:

I'll place him on a small rock on his base with only one foot touching it, like he is about to get airborne (with spread wings). Yes he can fly, but only for short periods of time (more like huge jumps and leaps). He will have his arms in a kind of gunslinger-pose with raied pistols, pointing a slight bit downward (like he was aiming at a foe below him).

As far as colors go, I think I'll paint him this way:

  • Bright green wings with a glowing effect
  • Armor in an almost black metallic color with some remains of white and blue paint in some spots
  • Red legion-heraldry

Here are some pics of the parts I'll use:

The arms and pistols:

Body and legs (I'll scratch-build the mechanic parts):

Wings (I can't decide on which pair I'll use):

Backpack and Axe (I cut off all of the stuff I need to replace already):

Cheers, Clemens
