Nice work on the blending.  Shadows and hilites look great.  Cool subject, lots of contrast in color and material.  Thats the dude stepping on my skull after a night of drinking... I'm sure of it.

Once in a half a year I do a 40k figure just for kicks. So here's another one. What it started as was a few leftover parts from a set "Space Marine Recon with Sniper Rifles". I had a torso, a head and a sniper rifle with hands attached to it. I have found a nice resin base (a little more than 60mm in diameter) from a Polish company called Micro Art Studio. I have repositioned the hands for a supported firing position and roughly sculpted the legs with Milliput. Then I have made a ghillie suit and a weapon strap from elastic bandage. The effect of my work looks like on the photos below:

I always wanted to do a figure of a camouflaged sniper, but I was afraid I'd camouflage him so throughly nothing would be seen. This leftover bunch of parts allowed me to concentrate on the ghillie suit without worrying too much about the factual accuracy.

Ah, OK, that's what "40k" means.  I'm not as familiar with the fantasy figure makers' catalogs, so I had no idea.  I thought, "Forty thousand?  Dollars?"

Great figures, all of them!  And I really like the camoflaged sniper.  You could almost make the base and just tell people there's a sniper in there, too, and see if they can tell.

Gamera, Baron - thanks a lot for your kind words!

That skull came together with the figure set. The Set's bases didn't really give you a place to use it, so I used it here! It was indeed too cool to leave it on the sprue.

Yeah, 40k stands for Warhammer 40k. It's pretty popular so the OP probably thought people have heard about it.

Like I wrote, that was my primary concern here - I I'd camouflage the sniper too well, people would ask me why did I make a model of a pile of dead leaves?

     I am engaged in a healing situation so I am doing some weird figures . They are called WarHammer " Age of Sigmar " . They are tiny weird Gothic looking , Vikings ? with some weird heirarchy and some definitely " Steampunk " floatation looking devices .

 They even come with clear stands for the floating ones ! When My camera is out of jail , I will shoot some pictures over this way . T.B.

TB - Age of Sigmar is related to Warhammer 40,000 (short 40k!), so when you paint your figs, this would be just the thread to post the pictures in. BTW, those figgies are a very good practice material for fine detail painting. I hope you get well soon!

It's been some time and I've been practicing painting again. On this figure I got to practice fabric folds - see for yourself if I got it right. This is Space Marines Captain Sicarius. The base is from Micro Art Studio from Poland:

I was surprised by the face in close up - the captain's face is only like 3mm high...

Thanks a lot. The key to doing it right seems to be diluting the paints a lot. And to do this I had to add clear medium to the paint - without it the water was starting to break the paint apart. But with the medium all went fine. Thanks again and have a nice day

Hello everybody!

Today I have finished slowly painting up a pack of Orks - so called Storm Boyz. They are actually attached themselves to big rockets, you know, all balls no brain style. My three years old daughter helped me with this one - she managed things like what head and what rocket to put on which Boy, she was also responsible for such important tasks like painting the whole figure all black for a base coat. Thanks a lot for your comments and for your kind words! Working with my daughter is fun - I think for the both of us, and this particular set is very cool, too - because of it's modular nature, where you can mix body and rocket parts very freely and wind up with figures that differ from the ones shown on the box. Part of the fun was letting my girl figure out which head goes where and who gets which rocket. There are also many extra parts like extra heads or rocket "fronts" that further increase the number of possible variations.

And I think I wrote it before, but in addition to the fun it's also a good detail painting and shading training that can come in handy before painting more "historical" figs.
