Oh Boy, found another 1/350th Bandia Starblazer Yamato, now if only the guy will come down some on the ship, it is mine.

I assume you guys have seen these, but just in case - Bandai just repopped a couple of the old 1/700 Yamato kits. I have them both, and the quality on them is okay for 20 something year old molds. Some minor scratchbuilding would definitely improve their appearance.

Plus, at that price, they're hard to say no to.

Thanks for the links to the kits Cosmic J.  Here is the one I won off of eBay, gave a bit more than I wanted, but hey, this was the only 1/500th kit I could find and have found no more since.  There is a really great build tutorial on You Tube, 6 parts building this kit.  Will use alot of what I seen that guy do on this one.  But I do still want the 1/350th scale one I know the price is enough to gag a maggot. LOL

That will have to wait a while, but what the heck.  I'll take that challenge.  I have another project in mind ( to start once I get some others done, mentioned elsewhere ) that could be done at the same time as a Space Carrier Shinano.  I doubt my skills are up to getting it done up well enough to be side-by-side with a regular kit of Yamato from the anime, but I guess there'd be nothing wrong with a more "realistic" touch, right?

Now, to find a reasonably-priced, preferably full-hull Shinano in a decent scale...

Cosmic J, the Hull w/end engine bell is 20 1/4".  The box says 526mm.  The kit itself is very detailed, but does lend itself to be detailed further with a bit of work.  I have sense looked for another 1/500th and have not found, plenty of 1/700 and up.  I thought again I was going to follow thru on one of the Bandia 1/350th RC kits, but again the guy was greedy and I would not pay the ridiculous ship charge.  I understand it is a big box, but if I can ship a Pocher kit to Greece that weighed 20lbs for less than $60.00, then why do I have to pay over $280.00 for the shipping of this one?????????  This will not happen period.  Maybe someone in the good ole USA will put one on sell.  As far as I can tell, MSR for this kit is $475.00-$550.00, not $1000.00  I have a ole saying I do very much believe in:  a fool and his money are soon parted!

I will watch for this one!  I think you have the ability and skills to pull it off.  Not sure about what scales available, I guess the easiest to find will be 1/700.  Either way will make for a very interesting build.  I again look forward to this, and yes I understand, we have way too many pokers in the fire.

Actually there probably would be weathering in space. To join the panels and make them airtight, youd need to use a grease, or glue of some type as well as welding the plates together. However, Anytime you came near a star (ie, entering the solar system) the ships would heat up and the panels would separate slightly.  Then when you leave, they would shrink again. This would leave behind marking and weathering. And if it was a full time space vehicle (which it would have to be judging on the size of it) it would very rarely get cleaned. And also if it was a combat vehicle, this would also produce scarring and marking.
