checkmateking02Very sinister-looking, stik--something the empire would be proud of.

No paintwork done today... the air temps took a jump and the power failed here earlier..., add that to errands and well...
but here is yesterday's work on the lower main hull
with and without flash to show the difference
I just need to do some work on the hangar bay area and then I can do the gloss coat prior to decals.
That is very nice looking SP, great idea there on brush painting the plates- lots of work but worth it.

Yes, it's definitely worth the time & effort needed...
Over the past few days I finished the last detail painting on this project.

and today I masked off the area on the bottom of the main hull for the Klingon Insignia, and then painted it
tomorrow I can get a gloss coat on to get this finished up...
Looking good!
Though that light violet (mauve???) colour is just friggin' weird looking!!
YMMV
Yes it is... lots of color shift in it depending upon the lighting type. It goes from grayish to quite purple. I am curious to see how it will look once I get some Future on it.
With those color combos..............seems to be turning into the Squid of Outerspace
That is right spectacular Stik. Stunning paint work and I personally love the color combo you have going on there. Can't wait to see this finished up.

Thanks guys... it's finally getting there...
Today was one step...
Future...
tomorrow- decals...
Decals on.... lord this thing is full of compound curves and steps and such... thank goodness for Micro Set, Micro Sol, and Solvaset for the real buggers...
I gotta get these suckers with a coat of Future now to even it up before the final topcoat...
Nice, really like the look of this Stik.
Nice! The mauve doesn't stand out as much with the gloss varnish on, the final matte coat should tone everything down. Looking forward to seeing the end results.
Wow! She's ready for action! Very nice! The 3rd photo, were those decals for the grill work?
You do have steady hands re all that brush painting. Really nice job.
Waiting for finish coat and to see if you do any weathering.
This continues to be an eduational thread for me, thanks Stik.
Just kidding Stick. Really looking good man.

Nice work !
It proves that Klingon shipyards still produce first rate starships.............
Awesome stuff Stik. Your work has got that thing looking Bad A. I'm excited to see your finishing touches
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the enthusiastic feedback!
Today I added another coat of Future to seal in the decals before I do an washes and a top coat...
Tomorrow I should get it finished up....
Well, I think I am gonna call this one done for now... although I still do need to figure out something for the impulse engine glow...
Today I did a very subtle wash in certain areas, and then a topcoat of Humbrol Satin. Lastly I painted up the base of the stand to resemble some sort of arid planet, just to give that some visual interest...
I think that I will try to do some more photos tomorrow against a dark background....
That turned out mean looking Stick. Love the base.
Thank you MC
So here it is, all done in her multi color glory on a nice dark background sheet and with my nice arid planetary base...
Very nice! Thank you for the build narrative.
That, my friend, is absolutely outstanding. I have to say Stik, I believe you have pegged the awesome meter with this one. Thank You for taking us along for the ride.
For the impulse engine glow you might want to try the technique I use for my 1/2500 star trek ships that are too small for LED backlighting.
I apply chrome or polished aluminum bare metal foil to the area, then color it in heavily with a magic markr of the appropriate color. Magic marker inks are quite vivid but translucent, so the ambient light passes through them and reflects off of the foil back out through the ink. I finish with a heavy coat of Future or other gloss coat. Fairly convincing at least at small scale.
You might try it first on a scrap model or a part from your spares bin.
Thanks for all the feedback guys!
MC, I had tossed around the idea of various planet type color combos: grays, blues, reds, etc. In the end I went with this, as they were what I had in Tamiya colors ready to go. I like the sound of yours though very much!
Leiggho, the foil base for the engine sounds like an excellent idea! Although I may try clear red paint instead of red magic marker. I have plenty of chrome foil to give this a shot with.
A excellent build, I love the color scheme.

Love it, Stik.
How did you determine what colors to paint all of the individual panels?
That base painted to resemble a planet is genius. Gene's special effects folks would have been proud, methinks.
