I just started scratchbuilding but am no way building like you guys. I dont have any pics. But I have built a 1/000 Mistral from Gundam Seed the only kit part I used was part of a nose cone from a aircraft kit rest was just styrene and some copper wire. I have also started a 1/000 Missile Satelite from Gundam wing the only kit parts are parts of a F-16 engine rest of it is styrene. These are so easy that they are in know way as good as the stuff posted here.

I had 4 requests for bids yesterday, and I am trying to get all of that done so I can get back to work.

No sorry needed. My email has been a bit flaky lately. I just wanted to make sure I didn't lose it in the ether.Wink [;)]

I'm sorry Woody, I have been slammed. I will get that squared away this weekend.

Interestingly enough, I got another email tonight from a guy in Cali that is designing a game and wants spaceship models. He does CGI effects for film and has done a bunch of stuff in huge movies. St, Men In Black, Spiderman, etc.

Thanks I-beam

The outside dimension of the space station is 4" in diameter. At that scale, over detailing looks cartoonish. A scribed line would be 50 feet across. It has to molded in white metal as well so I kept it simple. I push molded the domes for the laser turrets and satellite dish which are 3/32" dia. and 5/32 dia. respectively. That made me insane enough. The spokes are 3/32 diameter.

Thanks for the compliments Hatewall and Woody. I did this when I was really into N scale railroading and I really wanted one for my railroad but nobody made one in 1/160. The hull was built and thrown away 2x and the barrel 3x. It turns out necessity really is the mother of invention Tongue [:P]

Hatewall, I like the Babylon5 ship. It looks very simple but geting the idea was difficult i'm sure. I loved that show. I wish it lasted longer but it is appropriate that it ended definitively and not go on and on and on ....

EDIT: Heres another one I'm working on. 1/72 scale Nike Hercules SAM with a launcher vechicle. They don't have the kit so I'm making my own. The vehilcle is just a cardstock mock-up right now. I think rockets/missles are simple if you can find the right tubing. The nike hercules has a wierd shape though. It's not perfectly cylindrical, more like a slim lava lamp. I'm gonna cheat though and make it cylindrical in the middle Evil [}:)] If I only had a lathe Sad [:(]

Wow backroom agreements, "I'll tell ya but I have to kill ya" consequences, strange scales and foriegn corporations. What is this, a Tom Clancy novel? ROTFLOL!!! Laugh [(-D]Big Smile [:D]

anyway nice scratchbuilding in this thread. I am not an elite scratchbuilder and I don't play one on tv either, but I'm pretty proud of my 1/160 K5. The bogies are storebought does that count? The barrel moves up and down via a piston mech just like the real thing (except backwards oops, and it runs on N scale track.

I'm working on it daily as time allows. These things seem to move forward in slow motion.

I will discuss details through email.

Woody, I'll try to compose an email to you later with an NDA that you can print, sign and mail to me if you are interested in the details.

I have to sculpt a green tonight and will be working through the night.

It was the 1/56, 1/100 and the gaming-related aspect that I had in mind with the sculptors and mold makers comment. Modelers & scratchbuilders are more about extreme detail and display. The art is dedicated exclusively to the visual aspect, and that's where our best skills usually are rather than engineering things that are intended for gaming duty. 1/56, 1/100 and gaming is usually more in the area of what sculptors do. Vehicles smaller than 1/32 and the larger elements smaller than 1/72 just don't have the kind of stuff we work on. Sculptors and model makers have a few things in common, I know. I don't know exactly what you have in mind, so I know it could be model makers you're looking for afterall.

jdavidb,

it basically covers development of any intellectual property, be it models, artwork, written text, software code, etc.

wouldn't this be more for sculptors and cast tool makers instead of model scratchbuilders?

oh, sorry Woody. I missed that.

Non-Disclosure Agreement. It means if you were to blab about project details to the public without being given permission, It would be a breach of trust.

Pretty standard practice in any r&d project.

yes, this is going to be geared more at gaming. I don't plan on starting a company myself though.

Are you trying to start a buisness? 1/56 gaming scale? It's a odd scale to build in considering the 1/48 and 1/72 crowds.

Cobywan your "unnamed starship" is too cool for works. It's a true work of art. Kinda reminds me of Clarks space ship on Smallville in shape alone (tear drop). Though yours is farrrrrr cooler and is more Art Deco not mention it appears to be a massive class of vessel.

of Elite statis.
