Scratchbuilding is all I do, haven't really bought a model kit since 93'...PL's refit A will be a first in a long time......I think I posess at least a little skill :)

don't have any pictures at the moment but have scratched built 6 1/144 scale warships, 1/2000 scalemodel of the pickering nuclear power plant with 4 reactors from the reactor building to the reactor & 2 space models that includes a 3ft tall space station for a movie a bunch of us did in high school

Wow - some very impressive work here!
I'm particularly impressed by Cobywan's small-scale ships such as the Millennium Falcon. They're amazingly detailed for their size.
My scratchbuilt and "kitbashed" models tend to be BIG, but scratchbuilding a model as small as that but so detailed + accurate and shape must require even more skill than a large one! I certainly couldn't do it.

the forums needs a scratchbuilding section IMO. I really enjoy seeing others work.

When I used to interview people for model building jobs, all I was interested in was scratchbuilding. It makes some insane when I say this, but there are model builders, and there those that put together copies of others models. One is a craft and the other is a hobby. Don't get me wrong, there are some excellent kit builders here. I don't mean to diminish their talent by any means, I just prefer scratchbuilding regardless of the quality or skill.

Randy Cooper is an elite scratchbuilder. It would be worthwhile to check out some photos of his work. I would love for FSM to do another article on his work. I hunted down the FEB 1987 issue, where the only article that I know of exists.
