Wow, I had totally lost this thread... Sorry I didnt reply to everyone.....

Brian, the Arii kits seem to be a Toy's R Us thing, as thats the only place I have seen it...

Anime Modeler.. As far as I am aware, the 1/500 kit is the biggest kit available... There is a warped version with an over sized front end, but not sure how big it is?

REL, thanks for the compliment.. I am in awe of your scratchbuilding talents, so its a nice compliment to recieve...Do you a trade for a Sovie!!Big Smile [:D]  Jokes.....

Chris,

Great Model.  I'm a new modeler/ old modeler.  I haven't built any in about 15 yrs.  But I have been looking for a large scale Argo/ Yamato (star blazers fan since I was a kid) model like the one you have here.  It looks great.

But I can't seem to find any on the web.  What is the largest model of the Yamato/ Argo you can find and where can I find one to purchase?   I'm not having much luck I have been looking for a week.  I just now found this site, and your post doing a google search.  But I can never seem to find any for sell.

Email: Shocker88@triad.rr.com

Thanks for your or anyone's help.  I'm not a good forum person, but I will try and check back a few times a week.

Regards,

Greg

I had completely forgotten Arii put out a big Yamato! I see the Nichimo kit everywhere, so I guess it got drilled into my head.

Well then, good luck with the big Arii kit!

Thanks Brian... Actually the Yamato is the ARII 1/250 scale version.. They are being sold in Toy's R Us, and I actually saw a couple at Jusco last year..I will be building this one out of box, but am thinking about scratching all the railings and so forth... But I want to build it first, and then down the track add the extras..

Cheers, Chris

Well, it seems I got here after you sold it, but you sure did a great job on the Uchu Senkan Yamato, Chris! Congrats on the nice sale, too.
Good luck on the big ol' 1/200 Nichimo Yamato! From what I hear that big boy is a detailer's dream!

Thanks Drew. Happy to share...

I am the same as you.. I do remember watching the show as a kid. But dont ask me what it was about.... It was simply just an impulse build, as its the only kit that I had seen in a store here after 5 years of living in Japan...

Cheers, Chris

Chris,

I can't believe I'm just seeing this thread today. Your Yamato looks fantastic!!!

I really enjoyed the Starblazers TV show when I was a kid, even though I hardly remember any of it today. Smile [:)]

I had a model of the Yamato that was about six or eight inches long that I build more than 15 years ago. I think I tossed it.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the photos.

Regards,

-Drew

Well I wouldnt go that far.. But I guess, I have just learned little tricks in the way I do things.. Alot of people really take the hobby very seriously, and so take their time when building.. I do it as a form of relaxation and expression!..

I have a saying, if you are not going to see it. Then dont spend time on it.. Also some people like to let paint dry for a whole day or week.. I simply allow my paint to dry properly, dont feel it necissary to wait so long, so I can get paint jobs done rather quickly..

I also build to my own tastes.. I have no desire to put my work in competitions, and so although I think my models turn out good, I dont feel pressure if the paint isnt exactly right, or there is a small scratch or mark somewhere.. People who look at my models never notice things like that, so I simply dont stress about it..

Also, I get sick when I smell the fumes of normal model glue.. So I use super glue to build my models, and so dont have to sit around waiting for stuff to dry.. It also allows me to get parts together, and not have to use putty as much.. If its a small seam, I super glue it and then sand.. If it is a big gap, I then putty.. But that is not very often..

Lastly, I spend the most time on a model in the preperation stage.. I go through the instructions back to front, and back again, and I work out the fastest and easiest way to build it.. I then set myself up an assemply line, I always keep stuff moving.... This is the part that no-one see's... As I have stated before, thats why it looks like I do alot of work at once.. But in all honesty, I have 2 or 3 half built models sitting for months now, still yet to be finished.. When the feel hits me, they will be done, or I am working on something similar..

Thanks for your kind words Bud.. And no, I am not paying you!Smile [:)]

The airbrush will indeed be used on the Yamato, but to what degree I dont know..  I find that after some practice. I am better at doing smaller detailed stuff.. But when I want to do a big surface, I find it a little bit of a challenge... So may stick to the cans for the major colour painting...

Chris

yup, i practiced large area's as well, hard to keep a nice even surfuce of paint eh?

pffff. i wish i had a wife like that!

indeed, with this box on the todo list, ship out that "old" yamato!

and what a scale! nice and big! now, with your new AB in mind, are you planning on doing something special with the paint? cause it's a bigger model, maybe you can do a somewhat more detailed paint scheme?

[offtopic]

btw chris, in the other thread i saw a pic of your daughter, whut a sweety! how old is she?

[/offtopic]

[update]

quick update on my F15 model: i glued in the forward fuselage, and gave the model another coat of paint.

however, the result was a very ugly orange skin finish, so i sanded down the model again, to remove the orange feel of it.

I will try to find the reason why this happend (first guess: AB not clean enough..) and will keep you up to date on how to solve/prevent it, i would very much apreciate it, if you could share youre AB findings as well, since we both just started out using AB's, why not learn from each other eh?

tonight i will give it another try, if ok, i can start pre-shading the thing and then we're off to the next stage!

[/update]

well if your going to do the reliant are you going to fix the inaccuracies in the hull because I have the Reliant and want to do minor work on it like Thermal forming new phaser blisters for the upper and lower saucer area then sand smooth the phaser arrays and rescribe those same arrays flush with the deck as well as a few other panels.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

That 4th picture was totally the money shot!  get the depth of field out a lil more then crop it out to put in some space-ish background, it'd look awesome.

I remember watching the TV show when I was in elementary school. Me and my two best friends were in to the whole WWII pacific naval battles thing, building every warship model we could get and then they came out with that cartoon!! It was perfect!
Good build. Thanks for shooting me down memory lane.

lol yah i know.. normally we have rain rain rain..

but its hot here now, while none of dutch are used to it... today it's 30 degrees, which is very hot for nl indeed..they told on the radio today, we are in our second heatwave today, and that didn't happen since 1947!..(and in an interview of people who saw both heathwaves, they claimed this one is the worst...)

tried some moddeling today, quickly stopped... not funny anymore, too hot for me...

did manage to glue the extra wingtanks on my f15.. what a poor fit! had to glue it in 2 stages, and will putty / sand it when the temp. drops..

sweat along now... ;-P
