Actually,

The Original Movie Enterprise 1701, was painted in varying shades of blue and green After the ship was "destroyed" In Star trek III the studio model was re-dressed to sport varying colors of gray panelling. If you look around at some sites you can see the studio model, i had a picture but i dont remember which site it was on and the colors were indeed green.

I too am excited about this release but in looking at the recently released photos of the production kit the colors are wrong! The Bandi kit uses many shades of BLUE instead of Gray! The top of the engineering hull/Dorsal connection and the sensor array ore the largest exceptions (they should be dark Grey) and also the pylon vents should be either dark grey or black, on the kit they are again BLUE!
Although I will still get this impressive looking kit I think My airbrush will be getting a workout before the ENTERPRISE goes on display in my Office!

Got it, built in in 2 evenings, stuck it on a shelf and got back to my regular modeling. It's a great little distraction and finishes of as a truly beautiful display piece. The lighting system is ingenious, the part-to-part engineering on the whole kit nothing short of brilliant, and the prepaint awesome. Accuracy is light years better than any other Enterprise kit out there.

I had a little difficulty getting the saucer rim pieces seated all the way. More pressure, I guess. The nacelles pylons fit a bit too snugly into the 2ndary hull, so a bit of sanding may be needed. The nacelles don't snap together well along their bottoms, so some glue may ne needed there. Otherwise, no problems.

The light bulbs are encased in specially shaped clear housing to fit into the light transmission parts. I doubt there's any point in replacing them with LEDs - You'd need 1/4" dia x 3/4" LEDs to fit, and the damn thing is bright enough to read by anyway! The kit really needs nothing to be changed or substituted, it's pretty much perfect. All the parts have overlapping grooved edges, so if you put it togtether right there will be NO light leaks.

No reason in the world the purists out there couldn't use the kit to build anyway they want - strip it, paint it your way, get JTGraphics to make you some decals. I may even do that myself with a second kit.
