COMPLETED PICS: 1/48 Resin Y-Wing Fighter & AMT X-Wing display....

Anyways, I have started on the cockpit, and have started a little weathering.. This thing is going to need an awfull lot of rust, so the weathering will get full on as I continue with this kit..

I have started doing the copper plumbing for this bad boy, and I am happy with the way it is turning out!.. I got two different sized copper rods to complete this..

 I havnt really been into Star Wars kits of late, but I have really loved taking my time with this kit, and I simply cant get over the size of it.. I will end up displaying it with a 1/48 X-Wing on a nice wooden base with schematics..

Well I came across these kits by a company here in Japan..

I got this one a little cheaper than the other two I ordered, because he doesnt have landing gear or a pilot.. But I am scratching a pilot as we speak...

Another delema I am having is what colour to do the astro droid?.. I am leaning towards a red or blue one?

Thanks for your comments guys.. Well this one has such great detail, that it basically makes itself look good.. I am having the problem with trying not to do too much, in order to get the balance just right...

I have been back at work, so havnt had a chance to do much else since the last update, but will continue again this weekend.. I also have a flight-line of 1/48 X-Wing's ready to be built, and as stated earlier, will be displaying this Y-Wing on a nice wooden base with an X-Wing..

Starship Modeler acquired kits/molds from SMT, and is issuing them under their banner now.

Charlie, thanks for posting.. I have seen those ones on SSM and in honesty, happy that I found this guy here in Japan..

I understand that these kits are a big chunk of resin. But $200 is a bit much for them I think, and was happy to get a similar 1/48 Y-Wing $50 less than that.. In saying that, I dont want to be accused of being anti SSM, but am happy to have found a cheaper alternative.

The only problem with this guy is, that you need to speak Japanese, and he does take his time in getting the products to you.. But for me, I dont mind waiting.. The one I have has kept me plenty busy for now..  Actually is is back on the shelf, I have started rebuilding the X-Wing to go with it.. Once I have done that, I will finish the brass piping on the Y-Wing..

$200 is alot, but being a garage kit producer myself, I know how much time and money goes into producing resin kits.

I believe I paid $150 for the B-wing, and I honestly don't know how they produced it for that amount. (although I think its now $200). Resin and Silicon are expensive, and a kit like the B-wing (looking at the castings, which are top notch) looks labor intensive to cast, and with all the parts, was expensive to mold as well.

No probs Charlie.. as someone who has never molded or done anything like that, I simple dont know the effort that goes into it. So thank you for sharing that with me.. It does put it into a different perspective....

No prob! I used to balk at the price of resin kits as well, but once I started producing them, and realizing the cost, and effort involved........it gave me a better understanding of why they cost that much!

You know I was thinking that it would be great to see a build up of what is involved in bringing a garage kit to life.. But on further thought, if everyone knew how to do it, then you would be out of a job.. So I will leave that one alone.. But still would be interesting in seeing the process first hand..

Well, as for where I am with this set, I have just started the paint on the X-Wing, and so have taken a pic of it with the Y-Wing.. You will notice the Y-Wing hasnt gotten any attention since its last update pic..

Another update pic.. This time I have started adding the coloured markings on the X-Wing..

Had enough for tonight, so will get started in the morning on chipping the paint, and adding the weathering.. She is looking a little too clean at the momment!

Just taken a few momments ago.. Canopy on the X-Wing is done.. Not happy with the chip paint on the red markings on the side.. So I think I will re-do them...

The stand is the one that comes with this kit, but definately wont be used.. Will be mounting both ships on aluminum rods with a nice wooden base..

Well, I have made the wooden base up, and I have mounted the ships to their rods.. Very happy with the result.. But wont take pics until I have it completed.. Want to keep the final result a surprise.

Check out Todd's blog here. He recently documented the process for his blog. Its a simple piece, and by garage kit standards, was inexpensive to produce, but it gives an idea of the process.

Ok, she is done!..

For those just joining us.. This is a display that I wanted to build displaying the Y-Wing, and X-Wing together... I havnt seen these two favourite ships built into the same display together, so wanted to do it myself..

The Y-Wing is a 1/48 Full Resin kit from a maker here in Japan, and the X-Wing is the 1/48 AMT kit.. Both displayed on aluminium rods on a nice wooden base.. When painting these ships, I wanted them to have a subtle paint work and didnt want to make them dirty at all.. Some people like their ships dirty, but I decided to keep these guys clean...

Lastly, I plan on putting the schematics of each ship on the base, but will do that later..

But to did you get the models to stay on the rods ? Glue or a Bolt in the model that screws into the rod ?

And the same thing on the base.

Bud.. The rods are snuggly fitted into the base, and glued. As for the ships, they again have been snuggly fit to size, and may be glued into position once it is completely finished...

Capt.. Long time no see!!!.. Thanks for the comments.. As for my space shuttle. The actuall orbitor is finished, but just need to complete the booster and rockets.. Another kit that has been put away for another time.. How did you get on with that F-15 you were building?

He has taken it upon himself to make the issue more than personal by banning me, and I would just like to say that reagrdless of that fact, you all have a great little site over there, and that it is a shame, that alot of great talented members have been forced out because of the changes in the moderation structure. (Lloyd Collins excepted)

Let's set the record straight, shall we?

You were first BANNED by me several months ago for what was, for me, the final violation of TOS at Hobby Talk when making a serious of attacks on another member, known there as tyboy4umodels.  You had been warned by other Moderators publicly to back off prior to that, as well.  I BANNED you a second time when you showed up again w/o having asked the HT owner - Hank Hagquist,the guy who owns the "super forum" that is Hobby Talk  - to return to the forums.  Did you not get the message the first time?  This time around, you showed up again, but under a different name.  I discovered it - you obviously weren't really hiding that hard - and sent you an email telling you that I knew you were there again after being previously BANNED twice - yet I was more than willing to not push the issue with Hank provided you played well with others.  That's all I said.

The email I got in response was, well...  to say the least quite... amazing... in it's vitriol.  This email indicated to me that you weren't likely going to follow the TOS.  Hank has indicated in a number of posts at HT, as well as very clearly stated in the TOS, that he won't tolerate the sort of disruptive posts that you had initiated specifically against the guy known here as Admiral Grasshopper.  Since you don't seem to understand that there are rules of not only conduct, but civility, in a moderated forum, I felt it necessary to call for your BAN - once again.  I, however, am not the one who actually prosecuted said BAN against  you.

I'd also like to add that I have no idea what you're on about w/the allegation trying to make out that there have been a lot of folks BANNED at Hobby Talk and insinuating that it was either at my hand or my behest.  That simply isn't the case. 

 

EDIT: I find it interesting that you've chosen to take the above quoted text out of your post, too.  I think it shows pretty clearly just WHO it is that has taken things personally in light of the fact that you have to drag stuff like this out publicly.
