Funny you should mention the metal TV tray. For some reason when I think back to my early modeling days, the first thing that pops into my head is me building a 1/72 Heller clip wing spitfire on just such a tray. MemoriesSmile [:)] As far as my first Sci-Fi kit, Enterprise for me as well.

Gosh, long time ago ... either that Aurora Godzilla or the MPC X-Wing, although I seem to remember some of the old Universal monsters like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, and Dracula. Were those kits or am I remembering toys?

mine was a klingon cruiser, i was very young.............. unfortunatly, i build that one when my other hobby was M-80's!!!!!!!
