"Captain's Log, StarDate 2270.3.....We are a weary ship. Intelligence reports continue reaching Enterprise of Romulans amassing forces beyond the Neutral Zone. A brief yet thorough upgrade of Enterprise has been put to the test in the last several months: the Klingons, restrained by the Organian Treaty from overt hostilities, have supported an immense Romulan military buildup. Violent forays into the Federation, launched from the Neutral Zone and undoubtedly Romulan ships fitted with improved cloaking devices, have led StarFleet Command to bolster a stern presence. Enterprise has been at the center of every engagement. Those few suspected Romulan ships that haven't evaded destruction, in turn self-destructed to avoid identification. It is only a matter of time before the Romulans decide that StarFleet may be weakened enough by the constant incursions to unleash their juggernaut. "We are a weary ship......but Enterprise stands ready."

--------------------------------------------

"Chief Engineer's Log.....To counter the loss of half the Constituion cruisers in StarFleet service since the beginning of our five-year mission in 2266, Enterprise was put through a rapid upgrade, adding phaser and photon torpedo emplacements, and a radical armoring of the hull utilizing neutronium foils 'skinned' from the hull of the Doomsday Machine, a procedure crafted by Commander Spock and successfully rendered by StarFleet's Corp of Engineers. A new warp-engine - developed from data collected by Enterprise during several alien encounters which upgraded the ship's propulsion system - now capably delivers Warp 11.

Model spraybombed with Duplicolor Pewter and Light Blue metallics, with Krylon clears for finish. Lettering is from the Polar Lights Enterprise kit and Greywolf decal sheets. The pennants were cut from Goldberg trimsheet. The windows, sensor domes, and clear nacelle domes were painted with acrylics mixed with glow-medium. Gridlines drawn in with ink pens. Still have some cleanup work ahead with the painted detail; this was as far as the model was completed on Oct. 13 for a local contest, and putting it aside for awhile since some other projects need to be finalized.

That does look pretty good Orne. Something about a metal starship is cool.

Now we just need to do one in 1/2500, The Sacred Scale!

Just how long would the Enterprise be in that scale?

In 1/350 scale, the model is just a little over 32.5".  In 1/2500 have not looked into it.

continuing to be sidetracked from doing my work, if my very fuzzy math is correct, it would be in the neighborhood of 4.5 inches long.

i build 1/700 ships and a detailed 1/2500 1701 would no doubt be a bit of challenge, but doable.

Orne, great work mate, I have always liked the concept and idea of a TOS E blending in with either the NX or the refit.. I did a 22" project last year where by I decided to go the other way and have mine blend to the Refit, and so I kept it white, but added tiles, panels and aztec to the hull. Heres what I came up with, although the aztec and panels are kinda hard to get on camera, . I kinda wanted it to be noticable, yet subtle.. .

Chris - very nice work.   Know about azteking subtlties, made my own acetate masks for my ertl Refit long time ago, then realized how stark the contrast was and had to re-airbrush everything to make the patterns blend.

Thanks guys appreciate it.. It was alot of fun to do something a little outside the box so to speak and not be restricted.. I guess the new movie has started to garner interest in the subject again..

Really neat piece of work!

I especially like the stylized paint scheme,Not to mention all the subtle

modifications you made to the ship itself.

Truly a great build with a well executed paint scheme.Well done!Make a Toast [#toast]

By the way Chris...

That is the best looking 22" Enterprise I've seen in these Forums recently.

Great work on conquering the subtle appearance of the dreaded "Aztek" pattern.

Well done!

Definitely is a contest piece, Chris.  Nothing in your area in which to enter?

Thanks guys.. I am sure they do have contests around here.. But I am not into all that stuff.. Actually, we are heading back to Aus in August, so maybe once we are settled. I may be able to go through a few things and see what I have.. Will have the extra space then..

That's great news, Chris.  There are some awesome fellas Down Under and I've had the privilige of meeting a few of them at Past WonderFests.  Brian "BuzzBomb" Thewlis and his lovely wife immediately come to mind.  Great folks!

Now, if we could just get Orne to come back and update his thread....  Smile [:)]

I swear I saw this model posted here over a year ago...... I must be confused. Jeez, I still didn't get that answer to exactly what I had done. Am I getting old, or is something else going on?

In all honesty, this is Ornes thread. I just posted mine as a way to go the other way.. Ornes (which I love) is more in the direction of Enterprise, and mine was more in line with the movie era.. I just thought it would be nice to see different versions..

Yes, it's a thread about a model, not individuals.  Obviously Orne didn't have a problem w/your model being shown here, Chris.   I think they compliment each other rather well.

A few pictures, the first is a composite completed by a friend utilizing one of my photos.....

http://groups.msn.com/InfinityReach/ussenterprise.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1197

Second one just having a bit of fun, the Starfighter chase scene from TOS (the F-104C is the 1/18 diecast model from 21st Century Toys)

http://groups.msn.com/InfinityReach/ussenterprise.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1223

Didn't do such a great job with the impulse and afterburner effects, going to rework it later, add burner shockwaves and heat blurring, etc.....

I like Orne's build up very much, it has that re-imagined/high tech look to it, I love the color choices. In fact when I first saw it, I thought it was a scratchbuild of Gabe's Enterprise. Very nice work.
