Right now I'm working on the Nichimo 1/200 Type IXC U-Boat. I like the kit and it can be motorized.

Well for the last two years I've been starting my "Snowberry" but so far haven't washed off the plastic yet.
Every time I think of starting it an unusual aircraft, Triple A gun or car catches my eye. Which is a good thing I think... this week I found out about swiping guns from the RAF launch. If anyone has ant other tips I'd sure like to hear them.

Gip,

In the Features Section of Modelwarships.com is the full article I did on the S-100.

It's a very nice kit right from the box, with only a few minor corrections that need to be made. It's lightyears ahead of the venerable old Airfix E-boat released decades ago, at a fraction of the price.

If you add the WEM photoetch to it, you've got a model that really can't be detailed any further aside from doing an interior!

Regards,

Jeff,
Impressive! I've seen the Revell kit in the box, and was duly impressed by all the detail; the finished product looks great! So does the Kagero and the U-boat. How did the Revell kit go together? Did you build it out of the box?

I am in the midst of restoring my Revel Cutty Sark. I built it originaly to a photo in Basil Lubecks Log Of The Cutty Sark. I also got some info from the Cutty Sark Museum. We agreed to disagree over the paint job (They coppied a paintingwhich i dont think is accurate).
But did agree about the under water plating Monel Metal a brassy colour. The reason for refurbishment ...I smashed the rigging,by accident.
When this is finished I will start on a 1/100 sctatch build of the SMS Thurigen.
I have several,whisper...,aircraft on the go too.

I'd love to inspire you but the corvette looks more like a ship-WRECK right now ...

Im jumping around between a few kits... but right now the revell 1:72 flower class corvette: snowberry has top priority. I recived some parts from SIRMAR models. not long ago, and eaven thou some are really good (hedgehog set), there are ALOT of work to be done on most parts (so ask around before ordering).
And some general scratchbuilding aswell so i have no idea when it will hit the water. (RC naturally)

I am just about finished with PANDA's 1/350 Arleigh Burke. I also have a partially finished DML 1/350 INGERSOLL and a Lee 1/350 OHP.

I am currently procrastinating over my 1/350 Essex, next in line to be ignored is the recently purchased (CV 10) Yorktown.

I finally finished the Schnell, an article and photos will be posted on the site within a few days.

Next project is a whirlwind build of the Panda Burke, then probably the Minekaze 1/350 IJN Tone...or maybe I'll keep plugging away on my scratchbuilt IJN Takao in 1.350.

Maybe I'll just take the summer off...

Well I'm not building at the moment but I have built HMS Polyanthus, a Flower in 1:72, a working conversion of the Matchbox kit, a Billings Dragon Class yacht, MV Mercantic 1:50 scale Billings kit, the HFM kit of a Thames Barge Kathleen, also a working model and last but not least Revels 1:96 Cutty Sark. The Cutty Sark is finished to tally with a photo in B Lubeks "Log of the Cutty Sark". Note that some of the kits colour instructions are wrong... the lower hull in monnel metal not copper. There are many companies in the UK that sell plans for model ships check the net. TTFN Dai.

Here is a photo of the drive line stuffing tube for my R/C conversion of the Revell S-100 Schnelleboote.
The plan will be to utilize the Team Orion Flash ESC from my HPI RS4 Micro car with a standard Futaba two channel reciever. ( I may have to use a Shredder if the weight becomes a problem). The battery pack will be a four cell 2/3 AA pack with a micro servo for the rudder.

Night ambush - the best tactic for any torpedo boat! You would have to be mighty close to a DD to score a kill with a torpedo due to the DDs speed, rapid turn rate and small size. this would bring the S-Boot well into range of the main guns and 40mm Bofors. Might be hard to hit with a 5"/38 but the quad, or even dual mount would turn it into a large patch of flotsam.

Ever notice the best patrol boats are (mostly) civilian designs.

DD Captains worried about S-boats
Posted by Jeff Herne on Saturday, June 21, 2003 12:13 AM
I dunno Claymore,

If you've read Steve Wiper's Warship Pictorials on the S-boats, you'd think otherwise...it seems the Germans had a field day sitting in wait and ambushing British DDs at night...since the S-boats were mostly wood, they had very small radar signatures. Still, trying to hit a small target moving at 42 knots with something substantial enough to stop it would seem daunting to me...

B. LeCren,
I am planning for R/C but there a couple things I need to work out, running gear layout access hatches, etc. I may do a static after.

Umi, if I were a destroyer captain I wouldn't worry too much about a topedo boat.

Oops forgot to mention that I'm working on a C. W. Morgan.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Revell S-100 Schnelleboote that I am attempting to convert to R/C. The engine is the rewind motor for a point and shoot camera. I will be using the Team Orion Flash ESC with a standard Futaba two channel receiver. The battery pack is a four cell 2/3 AA, basically the same set up that I am running in the HPI RS4 Micro car.
I have to modifie the props, they are far too steep in their angle of attack. I have cut the blades off of the center prop and reglued them at the desired angle. I am then going to make a mold of the modified prop ( so I have extras for other projects) and replace the prop with the new casted unit. I plan on running just the central drive as it would increase the weight too much to make a gear box to run all three drives. Plus experience tells me that I do not need to run three drives to get a good speed with this motor and prop combination.

I have also seperated the deck behind the bridge to allow easier access to the interior of the boat.
More pictures to come as the project progresses. Right now too many things going on with Combat R/C Warships.
Phil

I am sure that this is the would be the least favorite thing to see from the bridge of your destroyer.

Tachikaze's(P. McKinney) 1/72nd schnell boat
He is also working on an R/C conversion of the Revell kit.

Quesney:
I assume you mean things like the figures around the stern lights, scroll work, poop lantern, and such. I am not familiar with your kit, but doesn't it come with these things? In any event, the figures and scrolls are often repetitive so I suggest making a master and casting them. A good reference is "Historic Ship Models" by Wolfram zu Mondfeld.

Claymore68:
Been a while since I looked at this thread ... Nice to hear there is someone else out there into CAD scratchbuilding. Even though I am still framing the corvette I've completed research on a salvage tugboat and am ready to begin framing another 1:48 hull. This one will be solid, not with the prototypical interior of the corvette.
In fact I'm rethinking the number of spaces to open up on that one ... That's one of the problems with original plans; one tends to get a bit too ambitious at times.
Good luck with your Schnellboot ... will it be static or motorized?
Regards.

Finished the 3rd Revell S-100 Schnellboote with White Ensign brass set, working on a 1/32 scale S-100 scratchbuilt, and the new 1/350 IJN TONE from Minekaze is next on the list.

After that, I've got a 1/48 HMS Warspite I have to build for a museum, so I'll be out of commission for awhile I'm sure!

I'm currently working on Tamiya's 1/700 waterline Scharnhorst. I'm fitting her out with her corresponding Edourd photoetch set. Masking and painting her was painstaking and slow due her small size, but I got through it, minus some of my previous good vision, but she looks nice. I bought a lexan case with a walnut base normally used for HO trains, but it fits the Scharnhorst perfectly. I've also had a brass nameplate made for her. I plan on covering the top or the base with "water" made from Liquidex gel medium and have her under full steam in her lexan case. I've got alot done, but there's about 10 things that can still go wrong. (Down from 100) So far, so good. Wish me luck ! :-)
