I guess so. The picture of the gun barbette was great, thanks. Time to line up the paint, I guess.

And finish the Emden...

Good man---now you're talking! Wink

Must have been shipped on the boat with only left handed oars Bondo. I bet if you used Google Earth, you could find that sucker doing circles out in the middle of the Pacific. Did they give you an estimated time of delivery?? Everytime I have ordered from them, it has taken about 2 weeks.

The deck is MK1 design by KA-Models.

I also have the Chih Yuen that may join in as well.

I'll be joining in with the Chen Yuen and wooden deck. In the photo above, the deck does look thick, but it is actually quite thin. Maybe as thick as 2/3 sheets of regular computer paper. The etchings are quite shallow (too shallow for sanding) and it does have self adhesive. The pic above may just be a dry fit?????

Jester:

Looks good. What brand of deck? I'm pretty sure I'm going to do Oregon but I still have Varyag, Ting Yuen and Mikasa in the stash and think wood decks are out there for the lot.

Sorry Eric, didn't mean to allude that was my work. Looks to be made by a company callled MK1 designs?? Its a stock photo from eBay.

I'll be honest, wood decks are cool and all, but after seeing on my Chih Yuen build what can be achieve with paint and some oils, I may really steer clear of them. Except of course on my Academy Graf Spee that came with a wooden deck. Wink

If we're really afraid of lawyers, we could try "Castles of Steel - With Bits of Wood: 1880-1914"

Actually maybe the name will encourage those who haven't read the book to do so.

I'm good with that as well...waiting on Vance to pull him away from his HO so he can work on a GB Badge...

...Vance?

A model boat is much cheaper than a real one and won't sink with you in it.

Actually maybe the name will encourage those who haven't read the book to do so. In my humble, Robert Massie is the best popular historian since Barbara Tuchman. His bio on Peter made a bad movie but is a really good book: Dreadnought is the best of the lot. I'd swear the guy actually did some research before writing. All used to be on audio book but like so many of the great Recorded Books they never made the transition to CD. (Better steer clear if you don't like Jellicoe though. Massie's defense is very well put, but it's hard to neglect the possible impact of a major British victory on German morale in 1916-17. If he would have "combed the wake" instead of turned away from the DDs, those big Brit guns would have been nasty beasts in a sustained engagement. Or maybe three Dreds would have their bows blown off.)

Castles of Steel.

aaaand watch the trademark/copyright take-down notices come in....

I thought about that, but it's a phrase in the public domain because Churchill wrote it in a letter in his position as First Lord..

Plus it goes back to Macabees.

Yeah, that's right!

Castles of Steel it is then?

Yes, let's go with "Castles of Steel,1880 - 1914"

Probably not that deep. I'd prefer them to leave the adhesive off just to allow the sanding. Anyone going through that much effort knows how to glue a board to a piece of plastic or can find out pretty quickly.

I have many books and my Lair smells of rich mahogany!!! Stay thirsty my fellow MOJOs!

I noticed the thickness of the deck also. It obscures some of the details it is designed to fit around. Not sure if its sandable on the bottom because alot of the newer decks come self adhesive. Mabye you could sand it on the top, but I wonder how deep the laser etchings go???

What's the thickness of that deck? You sand it down thinner before using, correct?

I like the turret inside, lots of possibilities there Big Smile
