1/96 Revell Cutty Sark and Constitution Dimensions
Posted by Shipwreck on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 10:58 AM

I have a Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark on the bench and a Constitution in the stash. In planning cases, the width of a completed kit seems to be an elusive number. Can some of you who have completed these kits share the completed dimensions. I probably need to plan with the studding booms in and with them out (minimum - max). I am even considering displaying them side by side in a single case.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

On the Bench:

Revell 1/96 USS Constitution - rigging

Kinetic 1/48 YF-104A 5-2957

Trumpeter 1/350 USS Hornet CV-8

Revell 1/48 B-1B Lancer Prep & Reasearch

Not exact measurements, but both are in the neighborhood of 14 inches.

That is, 14 inches with studding booms.  About 12 inches without.  Hope this helps!

I just measured my Constitution mainmast lower yard and studding booms (placed INSIDE - no sails) and got 15 3/16". I'm almost done. Need braces, cutter, jollyboats, and sailors. I would imagine that the studding booms on the mainmast lower yard if placed on the outside for sails would add another 4" total width +/-. I hope this is helpful.

These are the original dimensions of these boats that come to my attention,without great error

            USS Constituition

 Anchorage length- AL= (LOA + bowsprits + spanker boom) = 97.53 m
LOA = 63.4 m
LWL = 53m
Beam = 13.26m

           Cutty Sark

Anchorage-LA = length (LOA +  bowsprits + spanker boom) = 85.34 m
LOA = 70.5m
LWL = 64.74 m
Beam = 10.97 m

So you can make accounts for any scale

Yeah, that's better than my measurements.  I was going from memory as it's been awhile since I built them and they've dissappeared to other homes in the meantime.  And, I never used the sails, so my measurements would have been with the booms inside.  sorry :(
