Hmm decision time. Do I run a FO to each porthole or just light from behind?

Oooooooh, difficult decision Roy, if you are going to light from behind I would suggest using some kind of diffuser behind the portholes, clear acetate or styrene sanded with very fine grit wet or dry would do it. sand until the clear is white then glue strips of it behind the portholes. plenty of light will get through but you wouldn't see the bulb in the middle of the model. Anyone else got any ideas for Roy?

WiP Update:
Portholes drilled although they could do with de burring. Inside hull painted white. First deck light proofed and masked. Gotta paint decks and start with the fibre optics. Pics to follow when I can get near a pc

All the best

For deburring Roy, I use a woodworking countersink rose twiddled between thumb and forefinger if you don't already do so, gives great control over how much you cut! So it's fibre optics then mate, is that the ones that came with the kit?

Still undecided, my problem is I have 20 LEDs that came with the kit, ten white and ten warm
White I'm just wondering if that'll be enough for the mass of fibres. I brought the fibre cable separately. Hope all is well Jockster. What have you got on the go at the mo?

I've been finishing off my Zvezda Varyag cruiser. bout 80% complete and collecting bits for my 1/350 uss enterprise, in between these two I've been building a missile cruiser also called Varyag. The zvezda one is from 1899 and sunk near my hometown in Scotland, researching that got me interested in the missile cruiser of the same name.

I wanted to go to town on it with the aftermarket stuff but I couldn't afford to do it along with the cost of a new kit, but lo and behold I got the bargain which amounted to a complete new enterprise that needed the 3 deck sections & 2 hull sections stripped. The aftermarket stuff has cost about 150 quid so far with another 30 still to go if I decide to use the etched deck elevators. I"m pretty certain that's what I"ll do coz I really like them on A.M. Jorge s build, which is worth a look by the way!

Roy, the guy in Canada doesn't have any 1/350 Titanic decals left but he does have some 1/400 scale decs left, sounds like a fellow modeller had made a batch and sold the remainder to the Canadian. There wouldn't be much difference in size between 350 & 400 if you want to go for it. let me know mate and I will get you two in touch. It's a very small sheet by the way!

It is indeed my man. I'm a F1 nut. And a big Lewis fan. Also got Hachette's Tiger Tank on the go too. But I've not touched either of them since may. I have a massive stack of modeling to do just not the beans to do it l

Hi,I just wanted to say that you bit off a big job.I did my MINICRAFT -TITANIC about seven years ago using fibre-optic material and believe me it was a job.

The whole idea of thinking of someone else drilling out all those holes just sent shivers up my spine. The end result will look good as long as you are very careful and NEAT in your work.Don,t forget to paint the parts you don,t  want reflecting light ,black. This applies to all the sided of each strand .

This assures the light will shine out the windows and portholes. It makes a great night light and I now wish I had kept it.I gave it to my former employer as a lighting set piece in their restaurant.

I don,t know even if they,re still open.     TANKER-builder

Yeah the decals look fun on the McLaren Jock, still after some Titanic ones too. Thanks for the advice Tanker, it's on the back burner at the mo as I have the Amati kit on the way :D I must admit though even just drilling the portholes has made it look fantastic! Happy chappie :)

It was the Titanic decals I was on about! The guy in Canada has a set of 1\400 scale left but cannot get any more 1/350 scale, there wont be much difference in size coz they're tiny anyway! Up to you mate!
