To answer the comment on watching a ball game while building; You obviously have never watched baseball, you could scratchbuild a pocketwatch with baseball on the tube.

I model in the basement, and when it gets humid, it gets that old musty smell of damp wood, fuel oil (I have an old house with Kreosote treated timbers), and sweat (I also have my gym down there.  So, its the smell that gets me in the mood.  I also will put in a DVD, usually Master and Commander.  I add a little ambiance by opening a can of Tuna and let it air to add that hint of ocean/fish aroma, however, it also attracts the cats, which in turn becomes bad juju.
