I don't know what that 6th wire was for, the 5th one either except for use with the landing barricade, maybe?
At the time those aircraft were being used, there were only four arresting wires on the flight deck. I don't know when she was modified, but it had to be earlier than the later 1960s.
In the 50s, the North American AJ-1 Savage was being deployed on US carriers. This photo shows the first landing of one on Sara. Note that there are five arresting wires, not six, at this time.
There was an "extra" 3rd wire located just forward of the normal 3rd wire. It was utilized for the barricade.

You could mark each one and drill a shallow hole where the raised dot was.

Im quite amazed an old kit would have those, even if raised. Ive built a number of carriers in the 80s, but none of them had those. Wait, did my old Forrestal have them ...?

Hahaha. No, just noticed the pattern on the deck, and what appears to be a pattern for deck tie downs, except raised and covers even the landing area.
Lighting does kind of make it look like there's a fifth arresting wire on the deck.

I've not really put her on the shelf while waiting for the new decals, I've install the fuel decks, sponsons, and catwalks, along with putting together the bridge and aircraft.
True, but since the Sara used to live near here, that's the direction I wanted to go in. If it looks decent enough, there's probably a navy guy around here that sailed on her and might appreciate the model.
And the nice thing about that set is that you can do at least two ships off the one set- a Forrestal class and an Essex class.

We used to call Saratoga the "Sorry Sara". All ships have derogatory nicknames.
But if you don't get the photo etch for anything else, get it for the radar antennae and the cranes.

I always have had a fond spot for that kit. It was a Christmas present to me when I was probably about 15. The Picture Fleet version, had a painting of her in an Arabic port, dhows, mosques etc.

This decal set from Starfighter Decals may help you. It is for the Essex class, but the air wing and flight deck markings can be of help to you.
Get yourself some Microscale Liquid Decal Film, It's a lifesaver for old decals.
Thanks for the link. HOLY CRAP. That's detailed. However, I'm afraid that I'm not going to try to this far with this one. As it stands, I've just discovered that the decals for the main deck (the long stripes and such) are all tearing to shreds as I try to apply them. Got the name on the stern, but even it broke, and is just a tad squeued. If I'm lucky, the "60"'s will not come apart, otherwise, I'll have to paint a couple of stripes on the deck. Not EVEN gonna try the decals for the aircraft, too many, too small, to delicate.
BUT, I do like how Future works with decals. That I will continue....

Hahaha... I've been looking at the railings on this sara with a magnifying glass. Don't think I want to try and get any closer. Putting the decals on the aircraft will be detailed enough. :D
Actually there are some PE sets out there specificly for the old Revell box scale kits. Look at at eith Gold Models or Toms Modelworks sites for specifics.
I recently began working on it after having on a shelf for over 20 years. It's 1/542 scale, so I doubt there are any after market detail parts for it.
When I opened the box (last year), there was a serious molding error in the center of the flight deck, almost as if something had exploded under the deck. It took me a while, but I think I have it looking good enough that what is left can be covered by an aircraft at the end.
Right now, I'm waiting for the floor wax to dry before I apply the deck details.
