My point precisely. Therefore it was ok to tar standing rigging, but not running rigging - which does have to run through blocks (and various other mechanical devices).

I'm sure such details varied from ship to ship. (I'm not prepared to say the folks who rigged the a Niagara as Don described are wrong.) But I don't think a modeler needs to hesitate about black deadeye lanyards.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I wasn't.t able to finish my thoughts last night....sorry. I would assume dead eyes could use slimy tar to aid in rope passage.......still.....I guess it is up to the individuals desire.

I've always preferred to see bullseyes and their lanyards treated the same as the shroud deadeyes.
