HIJMS Hyuga 1-700 (Finished).

Looking real good. The colors provide a nice contrast.

Im with Ships4ever. I paint decks first and them mask them off. But, unlike you two, I like masking. Im a real masochist. lol.

I painted mine in the opposite order from you. I painted the wood decks first while they were not attached to the hull, painted the hull separately, and are hand-painting the deck details and verticals like the barbettes. I also really hate masking, as I have found that no matter what I do, especially on the hull, something goes wrong. For example, I have a 1/350 Academy Reuben James, and although I have scrubbed the hull several times with all sorts of things, parts of the gray keep coming off when I remove the tape. I have a feeling it is something unique to that ship, as it hasn't happened with anything else. I also have a 1/350 Trumpeter Tsesarevich which keeps having the black on the bootstripe come off when I masked over it to re-do the red below the waterline. Removing the masks after painting is one of the scariest moments of any build for me.

OK the Hull is now painted and to say it was fun was a misnomer. I HATE Masking. More to come soon.....Cheers mark

Great job on one of the more uglier ships,those details in 1/700 are outstanding.

Mins came with only one set of Barrels but are badly warped. I may have to bit the Bullet and use the IM Barrels. They still look pretty darn good in this scale and come with Blast Bags.....Cheers mark

You can build it either as a full hull or a waterline. I chose full hull because of the nice wood stand and metal name plaques that came with the model. I actually lucked out and got two sets of barrels and name plaques in the box. The barrels will come in handy for a future Japanese 1/700 project, perhaps the Fuso.

I have not got to that stage yet but will check it out and see what mine is like. The Main Mast is now complete. To say the P/E was a joy is a misnomer. I hate crowded I/S. More to come soon.....Cheers mark

I've been doing more work on my Ise, and have just about finished all the subassemblies, and will then paint them. One thing I noticed is that the instructions show the assembly of the searchlight/AA gun platforms that go on the front and back of the funnel, but don't actually show them being attached! Nothing like totally forgetting the subassemblies you just built. I'm trying to figure out which one goes where based on the illustration that shows the entire stack/scaffolding assembly on the ship.

As I have said before, but I'll say it again, I am in total amazement of your workmanship, especially with 1/700 scale. Are you going to replace the kit barrels with Master Model brass ones?

Thats some fine work you did with the PE on the stern. Must have been hard putting them on?
