Thanks for the comments Gents. The Scaffolding around the Tower was a pain to do but got there in the end......Cheers mark

Always like the look of Japanese ships. Brings back memories of building these kits when I was younger. This is going to look great.
Eric
Your build inspired me to put in some time on my Ise last night. I have the version without the flight deck, but they are pretty similar otherwise. The scaffolding around the funnel looks tricky. How did it go together for you?
On the bench: 1/350 Trumpeter HMS Dreadnought; 1/350 Academy USS Reuben James FFG-57
OK the Flight deck Area is now basically done with a bit more to add in this area.....Cheers mark
From what I can gather. Most IJN Capital Shups did not have Linoleum covered Bridge Decks. Their Cruisers and DD's did though and only on the Main Deck. If Capital Ships had any coverings on their Bridge Decks, it was Square Cork Mats....Cheers mark
it's probably a good thing gmorrison , a lot o that old linoleum had aspestos in it
I have the Hasegawa HIJMS Hyuga waiting until after I finish the Kirishima. I also have the Rainbow detail set (Rb 7060) for the 1941/42 Ise/Hyuga that I picked up off of eBay. It is fantastic! I recommend it highly for anyone building the battleship only version of these ships.
Interestingly, the Hasegawa Hyuga kit offers the choice of the Hyuga in pre turret 5 explosion or post explosion.
Bill
Those top shelf Hasegawa kits are the best. I have the Soya and the Mikasa in the stash; if I ever won the lottery I'd also buy the Gambier Bay.
This is making my eyes burn. Capn, I've seen the linoleum on models only, for medium and small surface ships. I don't know about the big thumpers. At least on the BB's the Japanese used some really high grade spruce.
That red linoleum was held down with silver metal bands.
Some years ago I was working on the War Memorial Veterans Building in San Francisco.
Built in 1929, all of the public spaces that were "back of the house" had linoleum floors, ala the USN. Big gray sheets of stuff. I put in a bid to get a couple of hundred square feet, figured I'd pave my garage. Nope, sent to the landfill.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
They certainly do Allan. OK here is the Hull together with the Stack and Pagoda getting a fit check. More to come soon.....Cheers mark
You have to give it to the Japanese ships; whether WW2 or modern, they really look good.
No bucks, no Buck Rogers
Thanks for the comments my Friend. I am trying to find out if Hyuga had thee Deck coverings. If she does I will add them.....Cheers Mark
surfsup OK her Pagoda Bridge is now completed. Will have some more soon.....Cheers Mark

Exquisite work there. One thing, my memory is that IJN used rather astonishing quantities of russet-leather colored linolem on its steel decks, particularly places like signal and searchlight platforms, bridge areas and the like. So, I'll be on pins & needles impatitiently waiting to see how this mast turns out.
Thats the way Trumpeter does it too. The thing to watch out for- don't take it for granted that the red/ grey part division is truly the waterline. Could be, but best to eyeball it carefully.
Thanks Eric. I figured out her armament must be putting her just before Leyte Gulf.....Cheers Mark
Lots of guns on her.
Thanks Buddy I will keep that in mind.....Cheers mark
I've got the Ise, same type of kit with the PE and wood base. So far, the only issue I have had is that the shafts are very fragile, with attachment points that make it hard to get them off the sprue without breaking. I broke the first, but was able to get it back together and looking straight. Overall, this looks like a fun kit, especially compared to what I would have to shell out for a 1/350 version. Even so, I will probably break down and get a 1/350 Fuso. I love those pagoda masts!
Thanks Eric. I did build the Hood about 5 Years ago and loved it. OK the Hull is now together and Hasegawa have done it in a strange way. More to come soon.....Cheers mark
If I recall, you built a beautiful HMS Hood. Yes?
Thanks for the comments Eric.....Cheers mark
Should be a cool subject.look forward to it.
