And a question about painting the Perry class - what color is the propeller SHAFT? Is it also antifouling red, or would it be a brass color like the screw? I'm got conflicting photos on that.

i believe that fujimi make a short hull kit in 1/700 but am not actually sure. as for the shaft color it is typically the same anti-fouling red as the hull is although it can be different.

1/350 OHP

Ahhhh, one of my favorite subjects. The Blue Water Navy kit is indeed the Yankee Model Works kit, he bought out BWN. I have both an origional version of the kit from about 15 years ago, and the more recent release. The newer version is the better. It comes as a long hull out of the box, to make a short hull you are instructed to simply cut off the hull extension from the stern. Really a nice kit that builds well but some details are missing.

Iron Shipwright just released a new 1/350 OHP kit that was available at Nationals. I just gave it a passing glance since I was locked in on other targets at their booth. It's a full hull kit, worth a look. Price is about the same as the YMW kit. Hopefully they'll have some pictures up on their web site at some point.
One advantage it did have over the YMW kit was a fully open hanger if you want to display it that way. Only OHP kit that I know of with that option. Dang, now that I'm thinking about it, I should've bought one.Banged Head [banghead]

Iron Shipwright released a 1:350 scale short-hulled Perry at the Nats

Iron Shipwright released a 1:350 scale resin and brass short-hulled Perry as the Clifton Sprague (FFG-16) at the IPMS USA Nats. Its is so new that the decals haven't been printed yet - but will be sent when ready. I'm told that they will include names & numbers for all the short-hulled Perrys.

The kit is very nice. ISW has improved their casting technology recently. They have a new PE etcher and someone writing their instructions. Its not your ols ISW kit.
