If it's not too late, I'd like to join you, with a German WWI Destroyer, the V106, in 1/400th scale.

Hey Guys
Not exactly sure what a group build involves (pardon my ignorance!) but I have a 1/700 Revell Tribal that I'm doing as HMAS ARUNTA.Do I qualify?

Well i'm definatly interested in this one but i have a couple of queries.......
Is there any sort of timeframe in mind for a finish date and would the Revell/Matchbox Flower class corvette in 1/72 qualify for a destroyer build............Question [?]
a long timeframe is critical for me considering the amount of work that needs to be done on the kit like replacing all the sorry looking armaments that in the box

The finish date is 12/1/05...and although a corvette is neither a frigate or a destroyer, sure, what the heck. If you want to join in...the more the merrier.

Jeff Still waiting for my Tamiya "O" class destroyers to be added to the list... Whistling [:-^]
I am assuming you just missed my post, either that or you have an aversion to cheap second class destroyers. But hey, if you're going to let in a corvette???? Clown [:o)]

Here are some in-progress shots of my destroyer projects, the USS Forrest Royal (Gearing Class) in 1/350, the French Maille Breze in 1/400 and the USS Winston Churchill (Arleigh Burke Class) in 1/700.

Your Gearing, is that the YMW kit? I'm in the market and thinking on that kit. Your build looks really nice.

Theoretically I now have a photobucket account. If I'm clear on how this works, the next thing you see should be a close-up shot of the bow of the frigate I'm building for this group:

The light spots on the side of it are part of the foam insulation that I used for a cradle to hold the hull during assembly - they are not problems with the paint. Alas, what appears to be an iceberg hole just below the water line is in fact a painting problem; apparently the masking tape is stronger than the paint in this case.

BTW, I apologize for the dubious quality of the picture. I'll wait until I have something reasonable to post next time.

MBT70 - great looking ships! Who makes the Winston Churchill, and how large is it? My understanding is that the real ship is fairly small, so I have to believe that in 1/700 it's close to invisible.

The Burke class is the size of a WWII light cruiser ... the model is Trumpeter, but the kit was USS Burke and I'm making it as the Churchill. I bought the Gearing from Blue Water Navy ... can't remember if that's the maker or distributor.
I appreciate the good words. This is my first group build, so I'm excited to see what you guys are all doing, too. And can anyone tell me what's expected of us as participants?

Blue Water Navy is the manufacturer. They're now Yankee Model Works:

I have about a dozen of their kits in the box, and have built 3 of them. Great quality.
That Gearing kit is especially nice.

That website is wicked cool. I really like the Gearing kit and would love to build some more of their excellent multimedia ships, like a Porter-Class Destroyer or the Tenneesee.

I have their Balch kit in the box. Very nicely cast. Beautiful kit.

I've built two of their DD kits, their '42 version of the Farenholt, and a kit bashed USS Laffey. I also built their USS Juneau kit. I put Juneau and Laffey into a diorama.

You can see photos of my diorama here:

and of the USS Farenholt here:

I know nothing about IJN ships, so forgive my ignorance. How big is a 1/72 model of this thing going to be?

Much bigger than Umi's Minekaze Class. There is a Shimakaze in that Class, but I am building the experimental one, which was a one of the kind. It is just under 6' OA.

I had to wear a hajimake just to look at that awesome model! Keep us posted, although it looks like you have a long time to go on it.
