Pirate ship...yep, another Roger !

  Ahoy !  Warped plastic ahead !  Prepare to clamp !

  LOL...I think I have lost about 7 so far...ah well, some of the gun hatches will be down.  That ship is looking mighty fine!  Did finally get the warps corrected on mine, but boy, was that a chore.

  Ar, after losing many a cannon to the carpet sea monster, and a few turns with the crappy jig she was set in, I broke loose the treasure chest and purchased something to hold the old girl a little steadier :

  Well, you just have to have your scurvy crew swab the decks more!

       Actually, I spray the deck flat black...wait one day, spray it tan, wait a day, spray it with thinned down white, then a clear flat coat.  Wait another day, then attack it with coloured pencils and pastels, then seal again with clear satin.  Sand lightly, and viola! Used and abused wooden decks ! Arrrgh!

   Glad you like it so far...and we all want to see pics of everyone's Pirate ships !  It's a piratical (sic?) christmas !

Figured (pardon the pun) that the figurehead of Jack's Bloody B***H shouldn't be holding a bunch of grapes, so, with the arms sacrificed from a 72nd spare, and a needle, viola!:

Your model looks fine! Interesting, that you have 'copper plated' the underwater hull. Did you represent the plating as well or are the wooden planks still visible? Would be nice to know as I'm a little undecided how to do it on my J/R.

  I lightly sanded the planking, but left on enough of the lines to show up...not really going for absolute realism on this one, as it is a fictional pirate ship. The hull will also be heavily patina'd with green to give it some character.  I just figured that if Cap'n Jack could afford to dress well, he'd copper his hull !

  If you wanted to go full out, you could sand the hull smooth, and then use that copper tape to replicate the metal sheathes. 

  How is yours coming along?

  Donnie, I hate to tell you this, but :  most ship modelers would be of the opposite opinion in regards to your model...it is fantastic, and a great representation of an actual sailing vessel !  In fact, when the instructions have gotten sticky, I have looked at the pics of your model to see how things are supposed to fit ! (hope you don't mind, I saved 'em to the c-disk)   Case in point : yesterday, I could not figure out from the grainy instruction photos how in god's name the rope halves go around the bowsprit...hit your pics, and viola ! " case is solve-d" (be sure to use a Clouseau voice here).

   I can hardly wait for you to tackle the Constitution !

Decided to have the little jolly boat slung on the backside, so I scratched up a deck and sail for the large barge:

...then we cobbled together some davits to hold the little Jolly boat away from the Captain's windows, and began installing the bloody railings !  :

  It is really cheap, and really simple...a large piece of  medium gray heavy paper (obtainable from a nearby art supply or craft store, about 6 bucks or so), a small section of bench, and a few clamp lamps.

   The new place (hopefully to be finished by april...yeah, I believe the contractor) will have an in-place photo studio, but this works out well for right now !  Just make sure the paper curls up behind the model, and you end up with a nice flat backround.

  Well, well...another year comes to a timely end !  Didn't finish the Hind, but have made some progress with the masts and such on Cap'n Jack's Bloody B :

   Arrr. Now we have ratlines for the ladies to climb, and gunports for them to change behind !

   Well, haven't had so much fun since I went fly fishing last summer...hemostats anyone?

  Just about done with the fore stays, now off to start on the aft stays...replaced the aft stay plugs with toothpicks, the plastic kit jobs were ruddy useless!  Arrrrrr!
