Bright crimson sails?  wouldn't they bleach out to a pink in the sun.  Somehow I think that Jack would regret sailing a vessel with brigth pink sails.

I do look forward to the crimson sails though, and do go for the bofor, and some 50s for good measure, a pom pom, and some depth charges.  Now that would be a pirate ship that would be menacing.

LOL...yeah, but you are talking to a what-if builder !  I was tempted to mount a bofor's on the stern, but leaned towards doing it as an actual sailing vessel.

Sails will be full on...bright crimson too...what else would Jack's Bloody B have ?

Based on the position of the yards, top and gallent, sails need to be fitted.  If the sails are furreled or not installed, the yards should be lowered to the caps.

Model does look good.

look mighty fine. Sails or no Sails ?  I used gift wrapping tissue paper that was a light brown. I rolled mine up in a tube, then twitsted it, then moisten it, let it dry and unraveled it as I put them on the yards. I am sure that whatever you do will look great !

Donnie

ps I think that I am going to move on to the Linberg Captain Kidd aka Wappen Von Hamburg.

Harr Harr! The aft stays and standing is getting close to being done, as well as the jolly boat strung up on the davits:

I found it at Lowe's...it is listed as a "plastic hobby vise" # 212042  by Columbian Inc.   It has proved to be the best ship vise I've used !

Thanks, Donnie ! Looking forward to your next build.

What type of vise is that you are using? Where did you get it and how much? It looks very handy?
Thanks

Well, well...another year comes to a timely end !  Didn't finish the Hind, but have made some progress with the masts and such on Cap'n Jack's Bloody B :

It is really cheap, and really simple...a large piece of  medium gray heavy paper (obtainable from a nearby art supply or craft store, about 6 bucks or so), a small section of bench, and a few clamp lamps.

The new place (hopefully to be finished by april...yeah, I believe the contractor) will have an in-place photo studio, but this works out well for right now !  Just make sure the paper curls up behind the model, and you end up with a nice flat backround.

...then we cobbled together some davits to hold the little Jolly boat away from the Captain's windows, and began installing the bloody railings !  :

Decided to have the little jolly boat slung on the backside, so I scratched up a deck and sail for the large barge:

Well, thank you very much -

I plan to post some pics of some of my rigging so far. I hope to have them up in a few hours !

Donnie, I hate to tell you this, but :  most ship modelers would be of the opposite opinion in regards to your model...it is fantastic, and a great representation of an actual sailing vessel !  In fact, when the instructions have gotten sticky, I have looked at the pics of your model to see how things are supposed to fit ! (hope you don't mind, I saved 'em to the c-disk)   Case in point : yesterday, I could not figure out from the grainy instruction photos how in god's name the rope halves go around the bowsprit...hit your pics, and viola ! " case is solve-d" (be sure to use a Clouseau voice here).

I can hardly wait for you to tackle the Constitution !

I thought I would jump in !
I am still working on the Rigging on mine. A few accidents, but cureable. Mine almost toppled over. Anyway, shortly I will be posting some updates on my JR.

Donnie.

ps
I  asure you that mine is not going to look at good as yours, but that is ok. I am basically happy with mine. It has been a learning experience with this being my first Plastic model in about 35 years. I do not have all the tools, tips and tricks, but that is ok as well. Just like you mentioned the copper tape. See, I would have never thought about going thru that to do my hull. I am happy with mine. I think that with the amount of time that I have to spend on mine, I am not sure that I want to put that much effort into it anyway :-)
I do think that your model and the other JR models here are fine and wish that we could all post pics of our JR in a mini group build page. I work on mine about 1 to 2 hours per night - on the weekends maybe about the same.

I lightly sanded the planking, but left on enough of the lines to show up...not really going for absolute realism on this one, as it is a fictional pirate ship. The hull will also be heavily patina'd with green to give it some character.  I just figured that if Cap'n Jack could afford to dress well, he'd copper his hull !

If you wanted to go full out, you could sand the hull smooth, and then use that copper tape to replicate the metal sheathes.

  How is yours coming along?

@ cthulhu77 :

Your model looks fine! Interesting, that you have 'copper plated' the underwater hull. Did you represent the plating as well or are the wooden planks still visible? Would be nice to know as I'm a little undecided how to do it on my J/R.

Best ~ Olaf

Figured (pardon the pun) that the figurehead of Jack's Bloody B***H shouldn't be holding a bunch of grapes, so, with the arms sacrificed from a 72nd spare, and a needle, viola!:

Well, you just have to have your scurvy crew swab the decks more!

Actually, I spray the deck flat black...wait one day, spray it tan, wait a day, spray it with thinned down white, then a clear flat coat.  Wait another day, then attack it with coloured pencils and pastels, then seal again with clear satin.  Sand lightly, and viola! Used and abused wooden decks ! Arrrgh!

Glad you like it so far...and we all want to see pics of everyone's Pirate ships !  It's a piratical (sic?) christmas !

Your ship is absolutely awesome. I love the color of your deck - what color did you use. This is the lindberg kit right ! Your deck is fantastic as well as the rest of it.

Ar, after losing many a cannon to the carpet sea monster, and a few turns with the crappy jig she was set in, I broke loose the treasure chest and purchased something to hold the old girl a little steadier :

LOL...I think I have lost about 7 so far...ah well, some of the gun hatches will be down.  That ship is looking mighty fine!  Did finally get the warps corrected on mine, but boy, was that a chore.

Yikes, did you just bring back memories!  Been longer than forever since I built a sailing ship, but your post reminded of the frustration of "pop" - then rattle-rattle and the horrors of an empty gun position in a semi-finished build.

Thanks for that reminder!

Make sure that you glue to cannons in really good. I did not and mine are popping out. You will handle the hull alot as you go along !
