The Saturn V is complete.  I built her as Apollo 13 which I saw lift off when I was 8 years old.  I'll never forget it.

Complete Apollo 13 with the RIGHT Decals

I started the LUT by cutting out the sides and platform, then gluing them together making sure everything is as square as possible.

Parts making up the platform

The four sides have been glued together and the platform glued to the sides.

Tomorrow, I'll start the structure that will go underneath the platform and giver her the strength she needs to hold up Apollo 13.

Cheers

Yes it is.  I contacted the supplier directly rather than using E-bay.  The Crawler and LUT arrived from California in less than a week.  There's probably 30 sheets and a CD with the instructions.  I'm letting the sheets flatten out before I start, plus it's giving me time to apply all the awesome decals from Space Model Systems.  I have no idea how to build a paper model, but I think I'm about to learn how.

I received the decals from Space Model Systems.  They are awesome.  I think every marking for the Saturn V is there.

Finally received a response from Revell.

Robert,

This is an error with the decals. Unfortunately, we do not have any replacements with the correct lettering in Red.

We have advised our Engineering and Graphics department about this.  It will not be changed at this time, unless the company decides to re-run the kit in the future.

If there are any other questions regarding any other Revell model kits please feel free to send your email to Cservice@revell.com and one of our staff members will be more than happy to respond back to you.

Regards,

The folks at Revell-o-Gram are pretty obstinate about this; when I discovered that they had done this, I wrote to them, as had a few other space modellers. Basically; tough, get the replacement decals.

I wrote Revell as well.  Why would they do this?  They're already printing red in the flags....Sounds like a screw up that they refuse to admit and fix.  Maybe it's time to boycott Revell!!!!!!

Pictures of the stupid black decals.  Man this really pisses me off.  I hope they come off without damaging the finish.......

I guess I'll finish up the engines whil I wait for the new decals and LUT...

Revell 1/144 Apollo Saturn V Rocket with Paper LUT & Crawler

With the anniversary of Apollo 11 and Man stepping on the moon, I decided to build this model for about the 4th time in my life.  Each time they get better and better.  Well, I finished her up yesterday less a coat of mat or dull finish.  This is a good thing.  Something just didn't look right after the decals were applied.  I looked at the box and realized the USA and UNITED STATES decals were printed in black.....Not Red....WTF...Revel supplied decals in black and not red.....Why would they do this?  After searching the Internet and finding out I was right in assuming the decals should have been red, I ordered a set from Space Model Systems.

http://www.spacemodelsystems.com/

Then I ordered the LUT and crawler from David Maier at  http://educraftdiversions.org/

Should look pretty good sitting in my Den when it's all done.

I'll post pictures later tonight if I get a chance.

Cheers
